AWAITING ARAKAN NATIONAL PARTY, PROCESS PROGRESSES

(Sitttwe, 17 September 2013): The process of combining two influential Arakanese political parties is going on in full swing.  Recently both the parties namely Arakan League for Democracy (ALD) and  Rakhine Nationalities Development Party (RNDP) have sent the list of their representatives to the combination  committee for further course of actions, said the leaders from both the parties.

U San Kyaw Hla, a central committee member of RNDP informed that their party had sent the list of 15 delegates to the combination committee as well as to the ALD central committee following their central committee meeting.

The RNDP had selected the  15 member delegation in their central committee meeting held on 7 and 8 September 2013. The list of RNDP delegates include some influential leaders like Dr Aye Maung (president of RNDP), U U Hla Soe (general secretary), U Khaing Pray Soe (member of secretary board) etc.

Similarly, the ALD had also prepared the list of 15 member delegation to submit to the combination committee and also the RNDP central committee.

U Kyaw Myint, vice president of ALD, said that their party hold the central committee meeting at Kyauk Pru, a gas-rich town of Arakan on 16 & 17 August to select the 15 member delegation. Later they arrived at RNDP head office in Sittwe on 25 August to meet their counterparts.

The list of ALD delegates include prominent leaders like  U Aye Tha Aung, U Kyaw Myint, U Tun Kyaw, U Myo Kyaw, U Hla Myint, U Tun Shwe Thein etc.

The ALD and RNDP have already decided to merge in a solo political entity named Arakan National Party (ANP) with 30 central committee members.

According to the party sources, leaders from both ALD and RNDP will now meet on 22 or 23 September in Sittwe to discuss about the process of registration for the ANP with the Burma Election Commission.

Soon after the registration process of the ANP  is over with the country’s election commission, the ALD and RNDP are expected to demolish their respective parties according to the constitutional provisions.
