24/11/2014 But detectives said they were interrogating all the arrestees considering their poosible ties to the Rohingya militants and their activities in Cox’s Bazar and Naikhyanchharhi.

A leader of the Awami League unit in Bandarban’s Naikhyanchharhi is among the five people including a Pakistani citizen arrested as suspected militants in Chittagong City.

Police nabbed Md Shafiullah, 38, from Hotel Lord’s Inn at the port city’s Nasirabad on Sunday morning.

The four others are Pakistani Mohammad Alam, 44, Salamat Ullah, 40, Mohammad Amin, 53, and Abdul Majid, 31.

Shafiullah had contested the last Upazila Parishad election with the ruling party’s support.

Police suspect the five were connected with Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO) which allegedly is involved with Rohingya militants.

However, one of Shafiullah’s party leaders claimed the man had gone to that hotel to discuss about selling land.

But detectives said they were interrogating all the arrestees considering their poosible ties to the Rohingya militants and their activities in Cox’s Bazar and Naikhyanchharhi.

Allegations have it that some Rohingya refugees are involved in criminal activities abroad by obtaining Bangladeshi passports.

Indian intelligence officials recently arrested RSO member Khalid Mohammad alias Khalid from Hyderabad over the Oct 2 Burdwan blast in West Bengal.

According to them, Khalid had confessed to have received militant training from Pakistan’s Tehrik-e-Insaf on behalf of Myanmar outfit Tehrek-e-Azadi Arakan.

bdnews24.com’s investigation also found out that Naikhyanchharhi Upazila resident Shaifullah had connections with the RSO.

Locals said his father Saleh Ahmed was also involved in RSO-related activities in the past.

The local influential family has close ties with the Rohingya people who have illegally come to Bangladesh from Myanmar.

Several local residents also said Naikhyanchharhi AL unit’s Human Resource Affairs Secretary Shafiullah works for a faction of the RSO.

They said Shafiullah joined Islami Chhatra Shibir, the Jamaat-e-Islami’s student wing, after passing SSC from Naikhyanchharhi High School. He passed HSC from Chittagong College.

He enrolled at Chittagong University’s Bangla department, but did not continue studies. He later passed degree from Nangolkot College and completed masters from a private university in Dhaka.

He is currently working at Naikhyanchharhi’s Haji MA Kalam Degree College’s political science department as an honorary teacher.

Local journalists said Shafiullah was also the president of the board of directors of two schools and a madrasa there.

A local Awami League leader, asking not to be named, told bdnews24.com that Shafiullah was not even involved in party activities six-seven years ago.

He joined Awami League after working for his brother-in-law who contested the 2009 Upazila Parishad election for chairman.

Naikhyanchharhi Upazila AL unit General Secretary Taslim Iqbal said Shafiullah was not involved with any militant organisation.

He told bdnews24.com that the party leader went to Chittagong to discuss about selling his personal land.

Shafiullah ran for chairman in this year’s Upazila polls, but was defeated by BNP-led alliance backed candidate Tofayel Ahmed.

BNP leader Ahmed is one of the accused in a case filed over the rampage in a Buddhist village in Cox’s Bazar’s Ramu Upazila.

Salamat Ullah, arrested with Shafiullah on Sunday, was also allegedly involved in the arson and vandalism at Ramu.

Salamat is locally known as a chief organiser of RSO in Cox’s Bazar.

Another arrestee, Majid confessed to police that his parents were of Rohingya origin.

His passport showed that he was born in Saudi Arabia’s Makkah. He visited Thailand, India, Qatar, Bahrain and Turkey in past one year.

Mass protests were held against the United Nations across four Arakanese towns on Sunday.
Over five thousand turned out in Sittwe alone, for monk-led demonstrations against Ban Ki Moon’s use of the term Rohingya

Therefore in a situation such as this if the accusation by the Burmese civil society members stand true then Thailand may well be violating several international legal conventions, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the UN Human Rights Committee states that “fundamental principles of fair trial” may never be derogated from. by denying a fair trial to the accused and also to the victims. Thailand is certainly a party to many of these conventions, especially those endorsed by the United Nations and an irresponsible handling of the case by the Royal Thai police and also the failure of the Thai diplomacy to resolve the issue with its Burmese counterpart may lead to the escalation of the controversy and the reaction to it may be much larger leading to international shame for the pristine South East Asian nation

Dr. Subramanian Swamy
Remember the violent protests by Muslim community in India regarding Myanmar riots ??
Remember Azad Maidan riots ?
They said they were protesting against the death of their muslim brothers of Myanmar.
But last week, a video release showed how ISIS’s Sunni terrorists killed 1700 Shiya Iraqi soldiers in a Mass execution.
Till now, no muslim organization or muslim country has condenmed the incident.
Paradise of Hypocrisy.

BOOK YOU SHOULD READ !: Heroes Moulded in Glass

This book is a debut novel by Kiran Arvind which will leave you wondering at the moot point-how many people have a martyr’s life touched at their core.

Kiran Arvind is essentially a housewife-married to an Army Officer. In other words she is an Army Wife -so different than her sisters in civilian life-aware of her duties as they unfold in the Unit her husband is posted in ,and totally conscious of her loyalty to the Army which slowly becomes part of her life!
This book Heroes Moulded in Glass is the result of close observation of Army life, its problem areas and its strong and weak moments. She hs endorsed a story which is different to the life her husband leads as a doctor , her chosen hero is Sid Choudhary , a youngster who opts for an adventurous life in the infantry-13 JAKRIF to be precise! It is amazing that Kiran ,who never went to the National Defence Academy or the Indian Military Academy describes so meticulously the life of a trainee cadet at the NDA and a Gentleman Cadet at the IMA ,and the subsequent events as Lieutenant Sidharth Choudhary joins his Unit and is swallowed up in the traditions of his battalion. He then does a great job wherever he is sent and enhances his career.
True ,she has the basic knowledge of a female mind as it affects the lives of Sid and Nilesh. It is however classically different when she describes the attitude and thought process behind the mothers of an army officer and that of a girl wedded to one!Similarly she is in consonance with the nuances of a General and a senior Colonel, who leave a lot of decisions for execution by their spouses! General Singh reaffirmed cooperation with Myanmar in border region stability and development, disaster risk management and other emergency matters and healthcare in the region.

On Wednesday, General Singh also called on Myanmar President U Thein Sein and the pair discussed bilateral friendship forged through successive governments, implementation of the agreements signed during the latest visits of Myanmar president and Indian prime minister to each other’s country and India’s assistance to Myanmar’s human resources development.

Ashes of Satya Narayan Goenka, master instructor of Vipassana meditation, scattered in the Yangon River and the Ayeyawady River.

The ashes of Satya Narayan Goenka, master instructor of Vipassana meditation, arrived in Yangon on Monday to be scattered in the Yangon River and the Ayeyawady River.

S.N. Goenka was a Myanmar citizen of Indian descent who introduced Vipassana meditation in India and trained more than 800 assistant teachers. Each year, more than 100,000 people attend Goenka-inspired Vipassana courses.

Goenka passed away in India on September 29 at the age of 90. His funeral was held two days later. His ashes, flown to Yangon from Mumbai on Monday, were placed at Dhammazawti Vipassana Meditation Centre. Some of the ashes were scattered in the Yangon River from the Botahtaung jetty yesterday morning, while the rest were reserved for worship at the Park Royal Hotel from 3-5 p.m. yesterday.

Some of the ashes have been flown to Kachin State’s capital Myitkyina today and scattered in the Ayeyawady River. Goenka’s burial urn will be then be carried to Yaytaguntaung Meditation Centre in Mandalay, where the remaining ashes will be scattered in the Ayeyawady River on Thursday according to arrangements by the Thidagu Sayadaw Ashin Nanissara.

During a visit to Myanmar in December last year, Goenka held a Dhamma talk attended by both local and foreign Yogis.

“Doing Vipassana meditation is not conversing from one religion to another,” Goenka said during the talk. “This is why people from different societies have been able to do Vipassana meditation without difficulty. The purpose of Vipassana meditation is to achieve good morals and train oneself to control and purify the mind.”
