Retired Burmese Sen-Gen Than Shwe donates jewels to Buddha’s tooth relic

Chiang Mai (Mizzima) – Former Burmese junta leader Snr-Gen Than Shwe disappeared from public view after the opening of Parliament in March, but his name was mentioned in state-run newspapers on Thursday for the first time.

Than Shwe and his family on Wednesday evening went to the Maha Pathana Cave in Gaba Aye Hill in Rangoon, to pay homage to a tooth relic of the Buddha that is on display for public worship, according to reports in The New Light of Myanmar and The Mirror. The relic was sent to Burma from China for public display.

The retired general his wife, Kyaing Kyaing, and their family donated US $1,300 (about 1 million kyat), 11 rubies, Myeik pearl, and a golden ring [value 488,000 kyat], said reports on the newspapers’ inside pages.

The chairman of the now-defunct State Peace and Development Council (SPDC), Than Shwe dissolved the SPDC on March 30 2011, and transferred power to the civilian government led by President Thein Sein.

Burmese Army soldiers wounded by their own chemical weapons

About 90 Burmese Army soldiers have been wounded by their own chemical weapons near Manwin Gyi village located between Namhkam and Bamaw on Nov 10, 2011. One of artillery shells filled with chemical agents exploded immediately after it was fired and caused several Burmese soldiers to suffer from symptoms associated with chemical agents, said a frontline source. Wounded Burmese soldiers were taken to nearby Namhkam Hospital and most soldiers were discharged after getting treatment. A virtual dusk to dawn curfew has been imposed in Namkham, following 3 bomb attacks since 7 November to 10 November, that killed one police officer and injuring 6 others (including 1 woman and 1 child). Namkham, one of Shan State’s northernmost townships bordering China, has been under virtual curfew after a bomb explosion occurred near the police station last week, killing one police officer and injuring four, according to sources from the border.It was announced through loudspeakers by headmen of the villages and quarters that no one was allowed to be outside after 21:00 until 6:00 (local time). Otherwise authorities will not take responsibility for anyone caught outside after the curfew. It was reportedly enforced by high ranking officials from Naypyitaw. But there has been no information how long the curfew will last, said a local source.

Meanwhile, the township is one of the places where the Burma Army and Kachin Independence Army (KIA) fighting taking place. As a result, any civilian seen outside after the curfew is reportedly being recruited by the Burmese Army to give porter service, she said.

“The outcome is no one even the animals are seen hanging out on the street even though the time is not yet 9 p.m. The town is so quiet now. It is therefore a problem for traders and vendors who want customers,” she said.

KIO leader’s orange orchard burnt down by Burmese Army

Houses and huts in an orange orchard owned by Lt-Gen Nban La Awng, Vice-President of the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) was burnt down on Tuesday evening by the Burmese Army, said eyewitnesses.

Hundreds of acres of the orange plantation along with non-commercial fish farms are located near Awng Ja village close to Ga Ra Yang village on the Myitkyina-Manmaw (Bhamo) Road in Waingmaw Township, about 36 miles south of Myitkyina, the capital of Kachin State.

The arson was perpetrated by Burmese Army troops from the Light Infantry Division No. 88 based in Magway, said KIA officers.

The Burmese Army soldiers also captured the Awng Ja post of KIA’s Light Infantry Division No. 254 and seized a 25mm machine gun, said eyewitnesses.

The KIA soldiers at the post withdrew after government troops resorted to indiscriminate shelling from heavy artillery, added eyewitnesses.

Jubilant Burmese troops celebrated on Wednesday in Ga Ra Yang after they burnt down the KIO leader’s orchard and seized a machine gun, according to witnesses.

The former General Thein Sein led Burmese government is currently sourcing troops from over 100 battalions for the offensive against the KIA in Kachin State and Northern Shan State even as it talks about democratic reforms in the country.

“ေက်ာက္စခန္းဖက္မွာေတာ့ ေန႔တုိင္းလုိလုိပဲ လက္နက္ႀကီးသံေတြ ၾကားေနရတယ္။ လြယ္ဂ်ယ္ တက္တဲ့လမ္းဖက္ေပ့ါ။ က်ေနာ္တုိ႔က နည္းနည္း ေ၀းတဲ့အခါက်ေတာ့ လက္နက္ႀကီးသံပဲ ၾကားရတာေပ့ါ။ ညဖက္ဆုိရင္ တနာရီျခားတခါေလာက္ ၾကားေနရတယ္။ ဒီေန႔ေတာ့ ေန႔လည္ပုိင္း လည္း ၾကားရတယ္။ ငါးမုိင္ မန္ခြန္ဖက္မွာေတာ့ ေန႔တုိင္းလုိပဲ ၾကားေနရတယ္။”

 

ထုိ႔အျပင္ ယခုလ (၅) ရက္ေန႔ကလည္း အစုိးရတပ္သားမ်ားကုိ တင္ေဆာင္လာသည့္ စစ္သေဘၤာ သံုးစီး ဧရာ၀တီ ျမစ္ေၾကာင္းမွ တဆင့္ ဗန္းေမာ္ၿမိဳ႕သုိ႔ ေရာက္ရွိလာေၾကာင္းႏွင့္ တုိက္ပဲြျဖစ္ပြား ေနသည့္ ေက်ာက္စခန္း ေက်းရြာဖက္သုိ႔ ထြက္ခြာသြားေၾကာင္း ဆက္ေျပာသည္။

 

“တေန႔က သေဘၤာ သံုးစီးတက္ခဲ့တယ္။ အားလံုး စစ္သားခ်ည္းပဲ တင္လာတာေပါ့ေနာ္။ ေနာက္ၿပီး အဲဒီညမွာပဲ ကုိးနာရီ ဆယ္နာရီေလာက္ေပ့ါ။ အားလံုးမီးေတြ မိတ္ၿပီးေတာ့မွ ကား(၁၉) စီး အစီး(၂၀) ေလာက္ မုိးေမာက္ဖက္ တက္သြားတယ္။ အဲဒါ လုိင္ဇာသြားမလား မုိးေမာက္တင္ဘဲလား ဆုိတာေတာ့ မသိဘူးေပ့ါ။”

“ဘယ္သူဘဲ ျဖစ္ျဖစ္ မန္၀ိန္းႀကီး ရြာသားဘဲ ျဖစ္ျဖစ္ ၀င္လာလုိ႔ မရဘူး။ အထြက္ေတာ့ ရတယ္။ မန္၀ိန္းႀကီးနဲ႔ မ်က္ႏွာခ်င္းဆုိင္မွာရွိတဲ့ ရွမ္းရြာမွာေတာ့ KIA ေတြ စခန္းခ်ထားတယ္ဆုိေတာ့ ေတာ္ေတာ္ေလး စုိးရိမ္ရတဲ့ အေနအထားရွိတယ္။ ရြာသားေတြအတြက္ကလည္း ဒုကၡဘဲ။ ထြက္သြားရင္လည္း အိမ္ထဲမွာရွိရွိသမွ် အကုန္လံုး သူတုိ႔(အစုိးရတပ္)က ယူသြားေတာ့ ရြာသားေတြကလည္း မထြက္သြားရဲၾကဘူး။ ေနမယ္ဆုိလို႔ရွိရင္လည္း တုိက္ပဲြေတြ ျဖစ္လာရင္ သူတုိ႔က ဓါးစားခံ ျပန္ျဖစ္ေရာ။” ဟု မုိင္းဂ်ာက ေျပာသည္။

အစုိးရတပ္ႏွင့္ KIO တုိ႔ ျဖစ္ပြားေနသည့္ တုိက္ပဲြမ်ားေၾကာင့္ တရုတ္ျမန္မာနယ္စပ္တေလ်ာက္ႏွင့္ ၿမိဳ႕ေပၚေဒသမ်ားသုိ႔ ထြက္ေျပးခုိလႈံေနသည့္ စစ္ေျပး ဒုကၡသည္ သံုးေသာင္းခန္႔ ရွိၿပီး အခ်ိန္ ငါးလတာအတြင္း မုိးေမာက္ႏွင့္ မန္စီ ၿမိဳ႕နယ္အတြင္းရွိ ေက်းရြာမ်ားတြင္ အစုိးရတပ္၏ ပစ္ခတ္မႈေၾကာင့္ ထိခုိက္ ဒဏ္ရာရသူႏွင့္ အဓမၼျပဳက်င့္ခံရသည့္ ျဖစ္စဥ္ (၂၈) ခုရွိ၍ အရပ္သား (၉) ဦးမွာ အျပစ္မရွိဘဲ ပစ္သတ္ခံရသည္ဟု (KWAT) အဖဲြ႕၏ မွတ္တမ္းမ်ားကဆုိသည္။
