( Yangon, 8 July 2013) : Two leaders representing Arakan League for Democracy (ALD) and Rakhine National Development Party (RNDP) are going to be awarded with a highest Arakanese national award for their relentless efforts for the cause of Arakanese unity.
All together 21 Arakanese civil society groups have decided to honour U Aye Tha Aung (president of ALD) and Dr Aye Maung (president of RNDP) for their successful initiatives to merge both the Arakan based political party into a single entity, said U Aung Thein Tun, vice-president of Rakhita Foundation, the leading organization of the award ceremony.
The photo was taken by Narinjara during the meeting held by 21 civil society groups.
Nearly 60 delegates from the Arakanese civil society groups agreed to award the prize to them in a meeting held at Arakan State Dharma Hall inside the mighty Shwe Dagon pagoda campus in Yangon on 6 July.
“We all admire both the leaders because of their selfless efforts for the benefit of Arakanese people as a whole. The Arakanese people today need an united move and hence they wholeheartedly supported the move to merge both the influential Arakanese political party (ALD and RNDP) into Arakan National Party. Both U Aye Tha Aung and Dr Aye Maung played a very significant role in this endeavour,” added U Aung Thein Tun.
Mentionable is that both ALD and RNDP are major parties of Arakan in particular and Burma (Myanmar) in general. Both the parties won many parliamentary seats in 1990 and 2010 general elections of Burma.
Recently the leaders of both the parties had agreed to dissolve their respective identities to come out as a single entity for the cause of Arakanese people.
“All Arakanese cheered the leaders of two parties for the decision. So we have decided to organize a ceremony on 14 July, which is our (Rakhita Foundation) annual foundation day, in Yangon to award U Aye Tha Aung and Dr Aye Maung,” informed U Aung Thein Tun.

Leh: Condemning the bombings at Bodhgaya in Bihar, the people of Ladakh held a peaceful protest which was started from Chowkhang Vihara and ended at Pologround on 8th July. Leh remained closed from 11.00am to 4.00pm. They also submitted a memorandum to DC asking for speedy investigation and to handover the temple management to Buddhist community. Thousands of people participated in the rally including religious heads, Political Parties. They also demanded the Government of Bihar and the Government of India to ensure safety and security of the world heritage site in future so that no anti-social elements are allowed to carry out such cowardly act.
People took to the streets from morning to enforce the dawn-to-dusk bandh forcing shops and business establishments to close down.
The temple’s sanctum sanctorum and the Bodhi Tree, under which Lord Buddha have attained enlightenment, did not suffer any damage in the blasts.
All the speakers talk about the security lapses that led to the terror attack in the temple town and demanded the temple management to handover to Buddhist community.
President Rinchen Namgyal, Ladakh Buddhist Youth Association said, “Our old Buddhist heritage temple has been attacked in Bodh Gaya. But fortunately with the blessing of the Lord Buddha nothing has been damaged. And on 7th evening a candle march has also been held in Leh to protest against the attack. Today we want to send a message to the world that your anti social element will not work. We pray for the injured for speedy recovery.”
Vice president, LBA Tsewang Thinless said, ‘Buddhist believes in non violence and whosoever tries to attack will not conquer. Buddhist community has never tried to fight in the name of religion. It’s very sad that the temple management is not in the Buddhist hands and the attack is the result of that. We strongly demand the management of the temple to handover to Buddhist community. So that there will be no security lapses.’
President District Congress Committee, Tsering Samphel said, “Today the people all over the world have a lesson to learn from Ladakh whatever we did we did peacefully. We did not shout anti terrorist slogans and we protest peacefully. A Woman Complains for Being Trafficked to Police

A returnee trafficked woman has filed a complaint on 3 July at the police station of Eastern Dagon so as to take action against those who trafficked in her, according to the police station of Yangon Region.
This woman was trafficked to China in 2011 and she has complained to the police station after having returned to her house in Eastern Dagon township on 25 June 2013 .
Being lured into a job in Mandalay by her friend Ma Zarni Tun on 1 July 2011, she was taken to Shweli in China via Mandalay by Ma Zarni Tun, Ko Nyi and Ko Thu and was sold to a Chinese couple for 40,000 Yuan, said police sources.
After staying in the house of that Chinese couple for several days, she was again sold to a Chinese man named Magadah for 55,000 Yuan and she was forced to marry him.
She had had to live together Magadah for 2 years and 3 months and had a child with him.
Asking her Chinese husband for her return home, she came back, reached home on 25 June 2013, and then complained the police station.
The authorities concerned from the police station of Eastern Dagon township have had her complaint on file with the charge of section 24 of the law enacted for Prevention of Trafficking in Person and a police officer is investigating the complaint to arrest the three charged.
“A life sentence is not other punishments. In other cases, a life sentence is considered 20 years. A life sentence for trafficking in person means spending one’s time in jail to the death,” a lawyer said.
If one was judged guilty as charged with section 24 for prevention human trafficking, one may be punished with a minimum of ten years in prison or a life sentence to the death.
Myanmar’s Parliament has rejected a proposal by President Thein Sein to delete a clause that requires members of a new anti-corruption commission to declare their assets.
The rejection of the president’s amendments to a new Anti-Corruption Law, under which the commission is to be established, was made during a parliamentary session held in Nay Pyi Taw on Monday.
President Thein Sein argued that the clause requiring members of the anti-corruption commission to submit a list of their personal property and wealth should be deleted as it went against Myanmar’s 2008 Constitution.
An official from Union Assembly’s Joint-Bill Committee however pointed out that the provision was already a requirement in the Union Government Law.
“The Union Government Law states that those appointed by the president for the formation of a commission with a parliamentary approval must send the lists of their assets to the president,” said the official.
According to the anti-corruption bill, 15 members must be selected by the president and the speakers of Lower and Upper Houses of Parliament to form the anti-corruption commission. The president then has to send the membership list to the Union Assembly for approval.
“It can therefore be deduced that commission members are appointed by the president with approval of parliament. The point that commission members must submit the lists of their assets and possessions to the president does not go against the constitution,” according to the official.
“Commission members, who will be vested with power to eliminate bribery and corruption, should demonstrate transparency in improving the country’s executive sector,” he added.
Parliament rejected the presidential remark amid public criticism that the cabinet members are accumulating more wealth and possessions compared with their salaries.
Security Tightened Up in Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon Due to Blasts at Buddha Gaya of India

Security will be stepped up in Shwedagon pagoda of Yangon Region because of recent bomb blasts at Buddha Gaya in India, according to pagoda trustee sources.

“We’ll step up security and we’re discussing it. Myanmar Police Force has planned security measures. How many security forces are used and where they are deployed are confidential. We are following the instruction of police forces,” said a member of the trustee.
Security is learned to have been stepped up in Maharmuni Yokeshindawmyat Buddha image and Swedawmyat pagoda (the tooth relic of Buddha) in Mandalay, Maharanthtookantha pagoda in Pyin Oo Lwin township and other famous pagodas in Myanmar as in Yangon.
Two monks, one of whom is a Myanmar monk studying in India, the other is a Tibet monk, and five people were injured in eight bomb blasts finding the four unexploded bombs on 7 July, India authorities say.
The President of Sri Lanka has reportedly called on India government to take immediate action against those bombers.
Burma Democratic Concern (BDC) Condemns Islamic Terrorists Attack on Bodh Gaya, Buddhists’ Religiously Holiest Place of Worship

Burma Democratic Concern (BDC) condemns with strongest unequivocal terms available on the series of bombs attacked by Islamic terrorists on Bodh Gaya, Buddhists’ religiously sacred place where Buddha attained the Buddhahood and it is one of the holiest place of worship for millions of Buddhists around the world. Bodh Gaya is located in Gaya district, Bihar State, India.
Burma Democratic Concern (BDC) is very saddened to learn that on 7th July 2013 (Sunday), the Islamic terrorists set off the series of bombs at the Bodh Gaya resulting in two seriously injured. Islamic terrorists had chosen the significantly important date since 7/7 is the 8th anniversary of London bombing by Islamic terrorists where scores of Londoners were killed.
We call for all the justice loving leaders and people around the world to denounce with highest possible terms on Islamic terrorists’ cowardice attacks on Buddhists’ religiously holy place of worship, Bodh Gaya.
