UNFC Conference to be held in Thailand

A national conference organized by United Nationalities Federal Council (UNFC) will be held in Thailand from July 28th to 31st, Joint Secretary Col. Khun Okkar from UNFC told to Eleven Media Group on July 24.

He  said the aim of the conference is to nail out the desire and demands of various nationalities.

The four objectives of the conference includes: strengthening of national unity, achieve common peace and political agreement, cooperate with the ongoing peace process with ethnic forces, civil society organizations and political party forces, and to discuss the construction of the Federal Union Building and its activities.

Local and foreign national organizations, political parties, political organizations and public based civil society organizations likely will attend the conference and the UNFC will announce those attendees list on July 28, the first day conference, Col. Khun Okkar added that.

After saying that a ceasefire agreement between ethnic armed groups will be signed in Nay Pyi Taw in coming soon by President Thein Sein, the UNFC called to hold a national conference.

The conference will be second time that these representatives meet in a large scale. The first meeting was held in September, last year after forming Union Peace Making Work Committee.

The first national conference of the UNFC had released the six issues on peace of political process and designated as a peace road map.

Although, the UNFC has already drawn frameworks for political dialogue, the agreement has not been accepted yet with the government’s peace team.

The UNFC was founded on February 16, 2011 and it re-organized with 11 ethnic armed groups in December who aim to consolidate a comprehensive ceasefire and peace talks with the government to end decades of civil conflict.

The 11-group is Karen National Union-KNC, Kachin Independence Organization-KIO, New Mon State Party-NMSP, Karenni National Progressive Party –KNPP, Chin National Front-CNF, Shan State Progressive Party-SSPP, Pa-O National Liberation Organization-PNLO, Palaung State Liberation Front-PSLF, National United Party of Arakan-NUPA, Lahu Democratic Union-LDU and Wa National Organization.

၄င္း NGO မ်ားမွေပးေသာ အကူအညီပစၥည္းမ်ားသည္ စခန္းမ်ားတြင္ အလွ်ံအပယ္ျဖစ္ေနရာ စစ္ေတြေစ်းမ်ားသို႕မူရင္းေစ်း၏ ေလးပံုတပံုေစ်းျဖင့္ ျပန္လည္ေရာင္း၀ယ္ေနသည္ကိုေတြ႕ရသည္။ထို႕အတြက္ ေစ်းအတြင္း အခ်ိဳ႕ပစၥည္းမ်ားသည္ ကုလားမ်ားေရာင္းေသာ ဒုကၡသည္ပစၥည္းေစ်းကို မယွည္နိဳင္သျဖင့္ လံုး၀မေရာင္းရဘဲ ရွိေနသည္ဟု ေစ်းသည္တစ္ဦးက RNG ကိုေျပာၾကားသည္။ “ မူရင္း ၅၀၀ နဲ႕မွေရာင္းနိဳင္မဲ့ ငါးေသတၱာ တစ္ဗူးကို ေငြတစ္ရာတည္းနဲ႕ ၀ယ္လို႕ရတယ္၊ ႏွစ္ေထာင္ေလာက္တန္မဲ့ ေခါင္းေလွ်ာ္ရည္ဆိုရင္ ၅၀၀ေလာက္နဲ႕ရတယ္။” ဟု အဆိုပါေစ်းသည္က ေျပာၾကားသည္။

ဒုကၡသည္ စခန္းမွာပင္ ေမြးဖြားႏွဳန္းမ်ားေနသျဖင့္ NGO မ်ားမွ ေပးေသာ ကေလးအႏွီးစ သည္ပင္ စစ္ေတြေစ်းအခ်ိဳ႕တြင္ ၀ယ္၍ ရျပီး ၄င္း ကေလးအႏွီးစ တစ္စသည္ ၅၀ က်ပ္ႏွင့္ပင္ ေရာင္းခ်ေနသည္ကို ေတြ႕ရေၾကာင္း အိမ္ရွင္မ တစ္ဦးက ေျပာၾကားသည္။

Khithar Non – Burma army soldiers torched some 20 homes after intruding on New Mon State Party’s (NMSP) territory on July 22. This attack was the latest in a series of aggressive military operations by government soldiers in the last 2 weeks. These operations have resulted in 3 people being arrested and several NMSP soldiers killed while defending their posts.

Nai Win Taung was arrested when a government unit stormed a NMSP post and killed 2 soldiers on July 16. The hunter that managed to escape after the same unit burned the homes told INMA that about 80 government (Tatmadaw) soldiers invaded Thuminkalan village during the latest attack.

“After the column burnt down the houses and huts, they separated into 2 groups. I was being detained by the first group and forced to follow from the rear.”

Nai Win Taung who knows the lay of the land managed to escape after the column descended a hill. Shots were fired but he made it to the Thai border unscathed.

However a NMSP soldier and his wife are still prisoners of one of the government columns. The couple was arrested on July 12 when they went to the new Thuminkalan village (different village than previously mentioned). The NMSP soldier had just received leave from the Mergui District office.

It’s suspected that both the government’s Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 597 and 581, and Infantry Battalion (IB) 224 and 288 were involved in the latest attacks. The NMSP lodged complaints with each of the government’s battalions, but still waiting for a reply.

Meanwhile many villagers that live where the government columns are still active have fled their homes and plantations. The government units are in the new Thuminkhalan village and other surrounding villages within NMSP’s controlled territories. So far it’s unknown just how many civilians been displaced. They are taking shelter where they can find it, mostly in monasteries and nearby villages.

NEW DELHI: India has alerted Bangladesh to the recent emergence of terror training camps for Rohingya Muslims in its Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) bordering Myanmar. Sharing intelligence inputs “from the ground”, the Union home ministry recently told Dhaka how Pakistani terror outfits like Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT) were allegedly training Rohingya rebels in camps spread across the CHT for “launching revenge attacks” in Myanmar.

During the just-concluded Indo-Bangladesh home secretary-level talks, the two sides discussed the need to arrest attempts by LeT/Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD) to exploit the Rohingya Muslims issue to open a new front on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border, close to India’s north-east region.

Home secretary Anil Goswami is said to have drawn his Bangladeshi counterpart’s attention to terror camps that have sprung in CHT region over the past six to seven months. These camps were witnessing terror training sessions by LeT and Jaish commanders, with help from local outfits like Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) that are linked to NGOs like Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO). Rohingya Muslims, according to Indian intelligence reports, are being trained in use of firearms and bomb-making at these camps.

Bangladesh has assured India it will verify these camps on the ground.

Lashker/JuD had in mid-2012 created a new forum, Difa-e-Musalman Arakan (Burma) Conference (Defence of Muslims in Myanmar), to mobilize support for an anti-Myanmar government campaign. A two-member team — comprising JuD spokesperson Nadeem Awan and JuD Publications Wing member Shahid Mahmood Rehmatullah — was deputed last August to forge covert links with like-minded Islamic organizations in Bangladesh and Myanmar.

Other terror outfits such as Harkat-ul-Jihadi Islami, Jaish-e-Mohammed and JMB are also trying to exploit the Rohingyas’ plight to establish new bases in Bangladesh. ယင္းေၾကညာခ်က္တြင္ ႏိုင္ငံေရး မတည္ၿငိမ္ေစရန္ ခုတုံးလုပ္ လုပ္ႀကံျခင္းျဖစ္ေစ၊ အစြန္းေရာက္ ဘာသာေရး အၾကမ္းဖက္သမားမ်ား၏ လုပ္ရပ္ျဖစ္ေစ၊ ဗုဒၶဘာသာဝင္မ်ား တရားပြဲ က်င္းပသည့္ ေနရာတြင္ ဗုံးေဖာက္ ခြဲမႈျဖစ္ ရပ္ကို အမ်ဳိးသားဒီမိုကေရစီ အင္အားစုပါတီ (NDF) အထက္ျမန္မာျပည္က ျပင္းထန္စြာ ကန္႔ ကြက္ ႐ႈတ္ခ်ေၾကာင္း အဆိုပါ ပါတီထံမွ သိရသည္။
