The National Police Office commissioner today ordered the immediate investigation into yesterday’s fatal shooting of an anti-government protest leader at an advance polling station in Bang Na. A dozen of protesters were also injured.

Heading the investigation team is Police General Aek Angsananont, the deputy commissioner of the National Police Office.

The deputy commissioner immediately called an urgent meeting to expedite the investigation in the shooting in front of  Wat Srieam temple in Bangna which resulted in the death of protest leader Suthin Taratin, the leader and also a founder of the People’s Army to Overthrow the Thaksin Regime yesterday.

He ordered that every measure be taken to gather all the necessary evidence in the case such as interviewing eyewitnesses and bystanders, and also interviewing injured parties who were at the scene and also if possible, to gather any video clips that might have been filmed by persons who were at the scene of the shooting.

Initial investigation of closed-circuit TV footing of the scene reveals that the shooter was travelling on Sri Nakharin road when his path coincided with the victim’s.

The deputy police commissioner also order an investigation into whether there was any dereliction in duty by the local police force who were responsible for the security of the area.

He ordered that all evidence and reports must be completed and handed in within 7 days and denied the allegation that some police personnel had switched shell casings found at the scene.

He stated that he was on-scene immediately after the incident and found no evidence to support the claim. He however stated that should evidence to support the claim surface then the full force of the law will be brought to bear upon the perpetrator.

Mr Suthin’s body has been transported to the Forensic Department at the Ramathibadi Hospital for an autopsy today as requested by his family.

On hand were Doctor Nirand Pithakwatchara from the National Human Rights Commission and  Khunying  Porthip Rojanasunant, a forensic doctor and Investigator with the Justice Department.

But Khunying Pornthip was not in the autopsy team but arrived to observe the autopsy.

Results of the autopsy revealed that the bullets had exited the victim’s body and the trajectory of the bullets was from both sides of the victim. T

The spouse of the deceased, Kanistha Duang-In stated that her husband was an avid politician and has been involved in politics for a long period.
