BURMA MYANMAR : Government Military reinforce in Murngngona
A battle happened in the morning at 8:00am of 10 January 2014, when Burmese army brigade and people’s militia forces searched for RCSS/SSA in the forest of Nam Doia village, Murnngona township (North Shan State), so they encountered and clashed. Three privates from Burmese brigade died, and RCSS/SSA was safe.
Government brigade in Thibaw township sent reinforcement to the battle in Nam Doia village, Murngngona township on 11 January 2014. On that day in the morning at 5:00am; Burmese brigade fired their mortar 3times into the Nam Doia village, but the shells did not explode. The villagers are afraid and dare not go outside, said the locals.

On 6 January 2014, Government brigade (unknown brigade number) and RCSS/Shan State Army clashed at Pang Nam Jaoh village in Kyaukmae township, lasting about 30minutes. The battle started at 12:30pm and finished at 1:00pm.
The battle field was the place where the RCSS/SSA were camping. Five mortar shells fell into Loan Ar Zay Ya and Pa Nang villagers, garden land, but nobody was injured. Both sides were safe, said the locals.

Lt-Gen Yawdserk, Chairman of the Restoration Council of Shan State/Shan State Army (RCSS/SSA), during the 5 day annual meeting of its Central Committee which concluded yesterday, 13 January, had expressed his desire to step down from his 18 year long leadership.
Calling from his Loi Taileng base in Shan State’s Mongpan township, opposite Thailand’s Maehongson province, on Saturday, he told SHAN of his announcement made at the meeting.
“I made it clear that did not mean I would retire from the national cause and the movement,” he said. “But I would like to be sure that the cause will be able to move forward without me at the helm. For this purpose, I would be happy to serve as a counsel to the new leader.”
The RCSS/SSA has two vice chairmen: Maj Gen Sai Yi (57) and Col Kherh Ngeun (62). Its secretary general is Lt-Col Siri (61). Yawdserk is 55. All of them joined the resistance in the 1970s.
“A commission will be formed to elect the new chairperson,” he added.
The statement that was released this morning, dated 13 January, however, did not mention about the election commission, but said a new 4 year Congress will be held to elect a new chairperson. It did not include time and venue for the purpose.
The statement also mentions that a 10 point position on the planned nationwide ceasefire had been approved at the meeting. There were no details.
The RCSS/SSA is one of the 14 ethnic armed organizations that have concluded a state-level ceasefire with Naypyitaw. Yawdserk reportedly enjoys close relationship with the government’s key negotiator U Aung Min.

Thai Army clarifies dress code order
BANGKOK, Jan 14 – The Royal Thai Army on Tuesday clarified its permission for its personnel to wear civilian apparel instead of uniforms for their convenience, according to Army deputy spokesman Winthai Suvaree
Col Winthai explained that the media reports that the Army permitted the personnel not to wear uniforms for their safety was a misunderstanding.
He said the Army has allowed them to wear civilian clothing for their comfort as they may have to travel longer distances or take more time to travel from their homes to work due to many road blockades by anti-government protesters.
Many army personnel must take public transportation which could be unusually crowded because of the demonstrations, he said, adding that superiors could allow their subordinates to change into their uniforms at their offices.
Thai News Agency reported that most of the male and female personnel of the Royal Thai Army dressed in uniform at work but the number of personnel who came to work at the Army headquarters on Rajdamnoen Avenue dropped significantly as some of them opted to work at home.
The Army also allowed its personnel without urgent assignments to work from home. (MCOT online news)

BANGKOK, Jan 14 – Protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban today declared a total shutdown of state properties in the next few days and the possibility of holding the prime minister and some Cabinet members captive to force the government to resign.
In his announcement on stage at Asoke intersection, the former Democrat MP said Bangkok will be occupied round the clock until protesters win their months-long battle.
He disclosed that he was contacted this morning and offered to postpone the general election from Feb 2 to May 4 only to be told that an election delay was meaningless for the people who insisted on the prime minister and her ministers to resign en masse to pave the way for a good person to step into her shoes and lead the national reform.
“After my rejection, (that person) deplored that the government has stepped much further back. I told him that the government should make a jump if it can’t find the way to step down. Government buildings will be completely shut down in the next few days. I will take the lead,” said Mr Suthep to the cheering crowd.
“We will cut off electricity and water supplies at the residences of Cabinet members. They should send their family members out of the houses so they can run easily.”
Caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra stood firm that she was not holding on to power for her political stability but she was merely performing her duty in preserving democracy.
“People are the genuine owners of sovereignty,” she said. “I am protecting democracy for the people who are owners.”
The embattled premier said the government will discuss with the Election Commission (EC) tomorrow on setting a new election date and called on those invited to attend the forum.
EC members should attend the meeting to give their opinions on the legal aspect to postpone the election while political parties are welcome to exchange their points of view, she said.
EC commissioner Somchai Srisuthiyakorn said earlier that a large-scale discussion would be fruitless and he would not attend the meeting. About 70 people have been invited.
Ms Yingluck said, “I beg EC members to directly listen to the meeting for a joint resolution. If we split the meetings into smaller groups, problems will be endless. There are two issues to be discussed: the election administration and legal aspects.”
The opposition Democrat Party and anti-government People’s Democratic Reform Committee have turned down the forum but Ms Yingluck said the government would do its best and wants the Democrat Party to announce its intention concerning the election.
“The duty of a political party is to run in an election. If rules and regulations are rejected, the country will not survive. Protesters should also join the reform forum to jointly solve the problems,” she said. (MCOT online news)
