Burma Amnesty: 26 Prisoners Released from Mandalay Oe Boe Prison-43 Prisoners Released from Insein Prison

According to the Amnesty granted By the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, 43 prisoners from The Insein Prison on November 15, 2012.  Those prisons were mostly criminal convicts and a few were sentenced under the Military Administration Act. Among those 43, 36 are males and 7, females.” Most were criminal convicts and a few convicts against the Military Administration Act. They have been in prison long enough to complete serving their term.” Said Ko Thet Oo, spokesperson of Former Political Prisoners Group.It  is  known  that  one  prisoner  jailed  for offending against the Military Administration  Act,  have been jailed for 2 years out of his 5 years term.  Others are  prisoners criminal  offenders remaining only short period of punishment.

It is known that the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar has granted amnesty for 452 prisoners including foreigners from various prisons in accord with Section 204 (a ) of the Constitution  and Section 401 (i) of the Code of Criminal Procedure on November 15, 2012 and the foreign prisoners will be extradited. It is learnt that the amnesty is granted in the aim of establishing stability of the State and eternal peace, on humanitarian grounds, for turning them into citizens who do their bits in nation building tasks realizing sympathy and goodwill of the state and for prolonging friendship with neighboring countries.

I is learnt that In September this year, a total of 514 prisoners including foreigners from various prisons in the whole country were also released by the amnesty granted.

According to the Amnesty granted by the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar issued under Notification No. 127 (1)/8 of the Office of the President, 26 prisoners from The Mandalay ( Oeboe ) Prison are released on November,2012.

Among those 26, 17 are convicts against Military Administration Act, 2 Nationalities of PRC,  5 males and 1 female of HIV Reactive patients and 1 female elder of 72 years. It is known that there are no personnel from social network groups present as the previous event because there are no political prisoners in the release.

Ko Si Thu said in front of the gate of Oeboe Prison,” There include HIV reactive patients among the released prisoners. They went back home together with their family members. No one from social network groups comes as usual.”

This is the third time of Amnesty granted by the President and there are altogether 452 prisoners released in the whole country in this time, it is said.
