President U Thein Sein of Myanmar | |
Since taking office in March 2011, President U Thein Sein of Myanmar has pioneered a historic transformation of his country with bold and visionary reform initiatives. His leadership has seen decisive action taken towards improving Myanmar’s relations with the political opposition, the ethnic minorities and the international community. He has made vast strides in ending the decades-long conflict affecting Myanmar, securing ceasefires with all but one of the ethnic armed groups. There is now hope that an agreement can be reached with the Kachin in the near future.
