One (2) Army ranger was killed and another injured when southern militants in a vehicle opened fire at four rangers riding in two motorcycles during a patrol in Saiburi district of Pattani this morning.
The attack happened at about 6.30 a.m. Tuesday when four rangers in two motorcycles were patrolling along the road in Tambon Trohbon.
A sedan followed the four rangers and the men inside pulled their weapon and sprayed shots at the rangers and drove off.
The shots hit and killed pillion rider Prapon Somanee while the driver Sampan Anprawast was seriously injured.
A combined force of troops and police are combing the areas to hunt down the militants believed still hiding near the scene.
