A village headman and two female assistants were killed in an ambush in Bannang Sata district of Yala this afternoon.
The militants also beheaded a female assistant, Urai Tubthong, 42, a female deputy village head after the killing, police said.
The incident happened at 2:45 pm on the road leading to Kalang village in Tambon Tanoh Pu of Bannang Sata district.
The three were returning to their village in a pick-up truck after attending a meeting in Bannang Sata district.
Ia Sithong, 46, the headman of the Kalang village, was killed with Urai and another female assistant, Chaliew Pikulklin, 49.
The militants made off with an assault rifle and revolvers of the three.
