Date: 24th December, 2015
To
H.E Prime Minister,
Government of the Kingdom of Thailand
C/O
Ambassador Thailand Embassy in Yangon
The 88 Generation Peace and Open Society’s objection against death sentences of two Myanmar migrant workers
We learned that the Thai court sentenced two Myanmar migrant workers to death on 24th December 2015 after convicting them of murders of two British citizens, Mr. David Miller and Ms. Hannah Witheridge, on Koh Tao Island.
This verdict came out despite international lawyers and human rights groups publicly pointed out the Myanmar migrant workers were wrongly accused by Thai Police, there was a lack of key witnesses, and flaws in DNA tests and procedures of forensic pathologists during the police investigation occured.
This case proves that the Thai judiciary has weaknesses and there is a significant ground for international criticism. We want our citizens to enjoy justice and the right to fair trial.
Hence, we, THE 88 GENERATION (Peace and Open Society) hereby object those death sentences of two Myanmar migrant workers. We urge you to pay an utmost attention to review this case and the verdict.

Hours after the verdict, President’s Office director Zaw Htay wrote on Facebook that the government would support Zaw Lin and Wai Phyo, both 22, during their expected appeals.

“The Burmese government will continue to help through diplomatic channels without damaging Thailand’s sovereignty, its independent court ruling and bilateral relations between Burma and Thailand,” he said, adding that if needed the government would appeal to the Thai Privy Council for a reduction in the sentences. Thailand to ban Myanmar illegal documents holders

CREDIT EMG

The Thai Embassy to Yangon announced that it would blacklist and permanently ban visa applicants who use false certification.

Despite of such announcement, some Myanmar brokers are still processing visa applications to the embassy with false documents, according to an official at Thai embassy.

Myanmar people are interested in travelling to Thailand, rather than domestic tour, due to cheaper package in recent years.

The embassy suggested visa applicants should apply the visa by themselves since the application via brokers was expensive due to extra charge and too risky.

The Embassy will ban the applicants permanently if any visa applicants used false statements to apply visa. The embassy will also take legal action against the brokers.

Any regularities if found, could be reported to the embassy at thaiembassyygn@gmail.com, according to statement from the Embassy.

The embassy issues some 300-400 entry visa on daily basis.
