update 1.03.2015

The Spanish cyclist who disappeared from Yangon General Hospital while seeking medical treatment for multiple slashes has been found at Sakura Hospital, according to the police.
“He seemed to be seeking treatment at Sakura without getting permission from Yangon General. We still don’t know how he left Yangon General. We believe he chose the hospital that he thought was the best. He is still at Sakura,” Lt-Colonel Win Kyi from the Yangon West District Police Force said.
While cycling from Bago to Yangon, the man, identified only as Carlos, 31, was attacked by two unknown men on the highway near Bago on Monday night. He sustained 13 wounds and was taken first to Bago Hospital before being transferred to Yangon General the next day.
The cyclist has been touring across Turkey, China, Mongolia, Yunnan, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand and Kawkareik, Myawady, Hpa-An and Mawlamyaing in Myanmar.

Police say hospitalised Spanish tourist is missing

A Spanish tourist receiving treatment at Yangon General Hospital after sustaining multiple slash wounds this week was found missing on Tuesday night, according to Yangon West District Police Force.
“We have yet to know whether the Spanish tourist is missing or has fled after arriving at the Yangon hospital. We are investigating this in cooperation with authorities concerned. As we don’t have the Spanish embassy here (in Myanmar), we are trying to contact him via the consulates,” Police Lt-Colonel Win Kyi from the Yangon West District Police Force told The Daily Eleven on Thursday.
Carlos, 31, was attacked by two unknown men while on a bike ride at Mile Post No.43/1 on the old Yangon-Mandalay Highway at the exit of Bago Region at about 10 p.m. on Monday. He was taken to a field and attacked by unknown men using an iron rod and a sword. His backpack, money and bike were also reportedly stolen by the attackers.
The Spanish tourist who sustained 13 slash wounds was sent to Bago People’s Hospital and later transferred to Yangon General Hospital.
Bago Police Station No.3 has opened a case under Article 394 of Penal Code of Myanmar. cr.eleven media

#BANGKOK #Swedish #Jens #Bengtson #jumped to his #death

A 24-year-old Swedish youth jumped to his death from a rented condominium room on Soi Sukhumvit 13 before dawn Saturday, Lumpini police said.
He was later identified later as Mr Jeans Viktor Bengtson.

Police said they were alerted of the incident at 2.40 am Saturday.

His English friend who rented the room on the 13th floor of the condominium told the police that his Swedish friend earlier has been in deep stress after complaining about his family in Sweden is coming to bring him back home.

He said Mr Bengtson was wandering around in the capital after his family posted on the Internet asking help from people to locate him.

He said he found Mr Bengtson at Khao Sarn road and brought him to stay at the condominium, waiting for his family to pick him back home.

Before he jumped out from the balcony of the room, he complained about his family trying to get him back home, police said.

Police said they inspected the rented room and found no trace of fighting which could confirm a murder.

His body was sent to Police General Hospital for autopsy test. THAIPBS

BANGKOK — The director of Kaeng Krachan National Park has been transferred from his post, five months after he was first accused of engineering the disappearance of a local Karen activist in the park.
Chaiwat Limlikhit-aksorn has been moved to the water management department in Prachinburi province, Niphon Chotiban, director of the Department of National Park, told Khaosod yesterday. The transfer will be effective on 6 October.

In April, local Karen communities accused Chaiwat of masterminding the abduction and disappearance of Porlachee “Billy” Rakchongcharoen, a staunch campaigner for the Karens’ right to live inside the park. The Karens say they settled in the park before Thai authorities declared it a protected area.

Prior to his disappearance, Billy was organising testimony and documents for a lawsuit filed against Chaiwat and several other park agencies in relation to the alleged burning and destruction of the houses of more than 20 Karen families living in the park in July 2011.

The wife of a prominent Karen activist, missing since April 17, has called on the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) to help find her husband.

Pinnapa Preuksapan submitted a petition yesterday addressed to NCPO chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha via Colonel Anucha Chumkham, who heads the Army’s PR Division.

“There is no progress with the investigation into his disappearance,” she lamented.

Pholachi “Billy” Rakchongcharoen was last seen with the chief of Kaeng Krachan National Park in Phetchaburi before he mysteriously disappeared.

Separately, Kriangkrai Cheechuang of the Karen Network for Culture and Environment yesterday dismissed a claim by the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) that Karen people had been cutting down trees in the forest with automatic saws.

“The Karen do not have such heavy equipment,” he said.

Meanwhile, in a move to have the case ready for consideration by the Special Case Committee next week, officials from the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) went to Kaeng Krachan to gather more information about the Karen-Thai people’s plight and Billy’s disappearance.

This follows the release of a video clip showing Kaeng Krachan National Park officials allegedly felling trees filmed by Billy before he disappeared.

In another report, the Protected Areas Regional Office 3 has said it will set up a committee to look into the alleged logging in a week.

Human Rights Watch has said it is seriously concerned about an ethnic Karen activist who apparently disappeared after being temporarily detained last week at a national park southwest of Bangkok, and has urged Thai authorities to provide information about him.

Por Cha Lee Rakcharoen, known as Billy – who had been preparing a lawsuit against the authorities for destroying the homes of ethnic Karen living in Kaeng Krachan National Park in Petchaburi province – was detained and then released on Thursday at a checkpoint in the park, but did not return home afterwards and has not been seen since. Canadian journalist Dave Walker missing in Siem Reap

Police in Siem Reap province are looking for veteran Canadian journalist and screenwriter Dave Walker, 58, who went missing from his guesthouse under mysterious circumstances on the afternoon of February 14, The Phnom Penh Post reported.

Siem Reap provincial Immigration Police officer Yut Sinin said that Walker had left his room at the Green Village Angkor guesthouse on the afternoon of the 14th, leaving behind his phone, laptop, passport and belongings – and little indication of where he might have gone.

“We are worried about his safety now. Previously, he would usually leave Siem Reap for Thailand for about three or four days, but this time we found that his passport, phone and clothes are still in his guesthouse,” said Sinin, adding that he had posted a notice seeking information on a Siem Reap expat Facebook group.

Sinin said the Australian embassy in Phnom Penh, which handles consular affairs for Canadians, contacted his office on Tuesday morning about Walker’s disappearance.

A representative working on Canadian consular affairs at the embassy confirmed yesterday that they had received a missing persons report, and were investigating the matter.

Sonny Chhuon, with whom Walker co-founded the film production company Animist Farm Films, said that staff told him Walker ducked out of his room at about 2pm on February 14 to allow a housekeeper to clean it, carrying just a bottle of water.

Depression and despondency have driven hundreds to escape and in many cases to attempt to proceed to Malaysia with the help of traffickers.

Thailand is usually a transit nation for “persecuted” BENGALI Rohingya who flee? their “homeland”, Burma, in an attempt to find sanctuary in Muslim-majority Malaysia.

By apprehending and holding the BENGALI-Rohingya, Thailand has left itself yet to resolve the difficult decision of what to do when more boatloads of BENGALI-Rohingya sail south from October.

Allegations of trafficking by Thai residents, by renegade military and by local police along the Andaman Sea coast have surfaced, compounding Thailand’s dilemma.

Last ”sailing season,” according to the best estimates, about 35,000 boatpeople fled ?? “ethnic cleansing”  in Burma, often without a destination in mind.

This was a four-fold increase on the number who fled in the previous October to April sailing season.

The expectation is that unless the approach of the Burmese Government changes, the number of boatpeople will multiply again in the next sailing season.

Phuket Immigration officials are due to give a media conference about the escapedBENGALI_ Rohingya tomorrow.
