Battalion polling station start counting votes in Mandalay
The voting process came to a stop at No 4 polling station of the battalion of Mandalay as there were only 40 eligible voters. Therefore the votes are being counted, according to a source of Dr Nyi Min Han, the candidate of Aungmyaythazan of Mandalay Region.

More than 300 people lose voting rights in Myothit ward
More than 300 people have lost voting rights in Myothit ward, Pobbathiri, Nay Pyi Taw as their names were not included in the electoral roll.
Some voters in Kyitaungkan village tract and Kyitaungkan village were included in the first time voter list and the second time voter list, but weren’t in the third time voter list. The names of the whole family were not included in the voter list.

YANGON, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) –– Myanmar’s Mandalay regional police force has confiscated some documents related to a terrorist organization believed to have been left by a foreigner in a domestic scheduled flight, local sources said Tuesday.

The documents containing some details about Islamic State (IS) terrorist group were found by cleaners of the Kanbawza Airline at Thada Oo Airport of Mandalay when the flight stopped over there on its arranged schedule from Yangon to Heho via Nyaung Oo and Mandalay, the sources quoted the police as saying.

The passenger had dropped at Nyaung Oo airport before the documents were discovered, the sources added.

Investigations are underway over the case.

Myanmar authorities has tightened security in Yangon region, especially religious buildings, ever since Al-Qaida leader Ayman al Zawahiri announced new focus on Myanmar, Bangladesh and India in September.

Earlier in the month, a video featuring Zawahiri describing the launch of a new branch in the Indian subcontinent with the aim of expanding jihad to the region was released.

Following Al-Qaida’s statement, the Burmese Muslim Association (BMA) denied to accept it, urging people to live together in harmony regardless of racial and religious differences and calling on the government to prevent sharing of terrorism belief in the country through systematic programs.

Precautionary measures have been reportedly taken by armed forces to beef up check points and monitor infiltration of terrorists.7

“The documents are information that is freely available on the internet, we believe the documents were left by a foreigner,” said the Lt Col.

“We have questioned an Australian citizen in relationship to the case,” he added “but the individual said he did not sit in that seat and the papers were not his.”

“We are continuing our investigations into other persons who were aboard the flight.”

Airline security has been reportedly stepped up in recent months, particularly after the September 3 release of a video featuring al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri announcing the formations of ‘al-Qaeda in the Sub-continent’. CR, MIZZZIMA.

Surfers in Myanmar lost access to their Facebook pages in yesterday night starting from about 9 pm and it was down until 3am today morning.
Some IT technicians said it may happen because local Internet Service Provider (ISP) banned Facebook. International Facebook users can use their pages.
“If you can use Facebook after using proxy, it is sure that Facebook is banned by local ISP. It is easy for them to ban websites,” said Zaw Win Tun, an Executive Member of Myanmar Computer Professionals Association.
“At first I thought the internet is bad and then I can’t use Facebook completely. In Twitter, Myanmar from overseas tweeted that Facebook is banned in Myanmar,” said Htike Htike Aung from Myanmar ICT Development Organization (MIDO).
“I can use it around 8 pm and it is not accessible since 9 pm. But when I use proxy, I can log in my account. It is somehow good that we cannot use during the situation in Myanmar is confusing. But it can interfere to others who are using it for their personal,” said Ko Toe, a Facebook surfer.
Facebook social network was down for about 20 minutes across the world in the afternoon of June 19 due to a server error. Myanmar has more than one million Facebook users and most of them are using Facebook with mobiles. The cause of the riots happened in Mandalay, the second capital of Myanmar, is related with rumours spread from Facebook. It was down just after two days of the riots.

MANDALAY – Police have deployed over 500 policemen between 82 Street and 27 Street after a second night of rioting that left two people dead and several injured.
The riots are said to have been sparked on Tuesday night by rumours on social media alleging the rape of a Buddhist tea shop worker by her Muslim employers, according to police sources.
When the police investigated the case on July 1 they tightened security in the area and advised the shop close its doors pending the investigation.
“They didn’t accept the police’s advice to temporarily close their shop since rumours were spreading on the internet. They refused because this month is their religious lent,” said police officer Zaw Min Oo, referring to the Muslim-owned teashop.
The attention soon attracted a mob that got out of control and soon turned violent, killing one man and injuring six others, including a police officer.
“People were crowding in to see what was happening. Then the crowd became bigger but no violence occurred until 10 p.m.,” he added.
On Wednesday night, motorcycles singing the national anthem began circling the area between 83rd and 86th Street attracting a mob of up to 500 people.

The riots at Muslims-owned Sun-Café on July-1 were basically triggered by the rape case now pending as the Sexual-Assault-Case Pa/293-2014 (Crime Act of Rape – 376) charged by Pyinmanar Police against two Mandalay Muslim brothers San Maung and Ne Win also widely known as the Muslim-Mafia in Mandalay.

Last night (July-1) there were rumors spreading like wildfire all over the town of 969-Monks’ pan to shut down and destroy two Muslim brothers’ Sun-Café. But Ma-Ba-Tha (969) monks later publicly denied the accusations.

So the concerned Mandalay-Divisional-Police posted several Security-Police details at the area since about 4 pm yesterday. At about 6 pm both Muslim and Buddhist crowds began to appear in large numbers at the area around Sun-Café and as a precautionary measure Security-Police shut down all the shops in the area.

At about 7 pm the crowds became really large and the Divisional-Chief-of-Police arrived at the scene together with several reserve companies of divisional Security-Police. They then blocked the roads in and out of the area at the intersection of 28th Street and 82nd Street and cut the electricity supply.

At about 8 pm the Fourth-Security-Police-Battalion from Shwe-zar-yan the Fourteenth-Security-Police-Battalion from Paleik were brought in to reinforce the hundreds and hundreds of Security-Police already in the area as the crowds became larger and rowdier. The more than 1,000 Security-Police then quelled the crowd initially.

But at about midnight both Muslim and Buddhist crowds reappeared at the scene this time armed with swords and spears and other weapons. So Security-Police established a separation-barrier line between two warring crowds.

By 1 am of July-2 nearly every policemen in Mandalay was at the scene and also the Sixteenth-Security-Police-Battalion from Sagaing was brought in as reinforcement. Once two opposing crowds began attacking each other police fired more than 20 rounds into air as warning shots.

Finally at about 3 am nearly 1,400 armed-policemen of three Security-Police battalions (4th, 14th, and 16th battalions) managed to quell the crowd and brought the dangerous situation under control again. Right now on July-2 the overall situation in Mandalay is uneasily calm and almost back to peaceful normal.

MYANMAR: Bomb scare continues in Mandalay

credit emg –  Mandalay, the second largest city of Myanmar, still encountered bomb alerts in public places after an unexploded bomb was found in a restaurant in the city recently.

A separate incident that also prompted a bomb scare at the Kwelsekan Highway Bus Compound on October 19 involved an unlicensed vehicle that was parked in the vincinity with the owner no where to be found. Authorities checked the vehicle and found no explosive material.

On October 14, an unexploded bomb was found at Golden Duck Restaurant in the city.

Also in the evening of October 18, a suspicious package was found near National Theatre in the city. The authorities opened it to find it’s only a handset wrapped up with batteries. On the same day, the authorities went to confirm it’s just a firework when they’re reported smoke were coming out of a garbage dump on 23th Street in the evening.

When the officials went to check the ownerless unlicensed vehicle at the compound, they just found a 12-volt battery, an umbrella, a bottle of purified water and a bottle of alcohol branded Red Label on it.

“Currently as the people are deeply concerned due to bomb rumors, they reported about anything found suspicious to the authorities. The police also make quick actions upon the public reports. It’s good for the public security,” said an official from Mandalay Region Police Force.

Though the police announced they have arrested suspects for the recent bombings in Yangon, Mandalay, Sagaing, Taungoo and Phyu, suspicious packages suspected as bombs are still being found in Yangon, Mandalay and Hpaan currently.
