On the morning of Tuesday 22nd October, the Burmese Army launched an offensive at Namlim Pa and Mung Ding Pa village tracts in Mansi Township, Southern Kachin State. This happened after the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) re-positioned to re-open the Kaihtik-Bhamo motorway. Burmese Army Light Infantry Battalions 45, 56, 236, 240, 276, 601 and 602 under Bhamo-based 21st Military Operations Command (MOC-21) encroached upon Kong Ja village and fired small and heavy artillery toward Mung Ding Pa IDP camp. Local witnesses stated that 60mm heavy artillery shells landed near the school in the IDP camp. Burmese soldiers looted IDPs’ belongings and arrested eight villagers from Kong Ja Village and two from Mung Ding Pa village, including a child aged about 12. These inhumane actions forced many of the refugees to flee for their lives. Some elderly, infirm people and children have taken refuge in the Mung Ding Pa village church.  Continue reading “PRESS RELEASE 23RD OCTOBER 2013 BURMESE ARMY ATTACK AND LOOT KACHIN IDP CAMPS”

UNFC ကို အခြေခံအဖွဲ့ ၁၂ ဖွဲ့ဖြင့် ပြန်လည်ဖွဲ့စည်း_UNFC to form Federal Union Army (FUA)

The long awaited Federal Union Army (FUA) will be formed in mid-December, according to border security sources.

The decision was passed at the most recent meeting held on the Chiangmai-Shan State border, 27-30 November.

Maj Gen Bee Htoo, Commander-in-Chief of the Karenni Army, was nominated as the new commander to succeed Gen Mutu Saypoe, who had resigned due to his heavy workload at his Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), the armed wing of the Karen National Union (KNU), said one of the sources yesterday. For unexplained reasons, the alliance was unable to implement the initial resolution to form the FUA taken in February, following its founding by 12 member groups.

“This time, it is for real,” declared Hkun Okker, Chairman of the PaO National Liberation Organization (PNLO), who was elected as Assistant Secretary General #2 during the meeting.

The grouping was made up of 12 ethnic resistance groups, including Kachin Independence Organization (KIO), KNU, Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP), New Mon State Party (NMSP), Shan State Progress Party (SSPP), Chin National Front (CNF), Arakan National Council (ANC), PNLO, Palaung State Liberation Front (PSLF) and Wa National Organization (WNO).

Another member group Kachin National Organization (KNO) led by Bawmwang Laraw has merged with the KIO, it was announced at the meeting.

Other resolutions passed at the meeting include:

  • Election of KNU’s David Tharckabaw as Vice Chairman #2
  • To demand Naypyitaw for cessation of hostilities in Kachin and Shan states

The Shan State Army (SSA) ‘South’ that had signed a ceasefire pact with Naypyitaw yesterday is not a member of the UNFC.

Kachin ethnic political parties, the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) and the Kachin National Organization (KNO), which is based abroad, have vowed to work together for the people and the country. A memorandum of understanding has been signed to this effect by both party leaders.

The leaders of the KIO, the political wing of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), president of KNO and other leaders signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to work together for Burma on January 22 on the Thai-Burma border.

“We (KNO-UK) are glad and welcome the decision,” said Lashi Goontawng, in-charge of the London based KNO office.
