Myanmar’s police are questioning two Bangladeshi citizens who were arrested on Tuesday under suspicion of staying at a guesthouse in Yangon disguised as Buddhist monks, according to a high-ranking police official.
Police arrested Parsujait Barua, aged 27 and Antar Barua, aged 29 while they were staying in at Polo Guesthouse in Pabedan Township disguised as Buddhist monks. They reportedly flew to Yangon from Dakar via Thailand and police are investigating whether they were planning destructive acts.
“It is true we have arrested and are questioning two suspects disguised as Buddhist monks. But we are still investigating whether they have a bomb plot or not,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Win Kyi.
According to the police, the two suspects arrived in Yangon on a Myanmar Airways flight at 9.30am on Tuesday. They were contacted by a Muslim couple who were to arrange for their onward travel to Malaysia. The police are searching for the couple and have confiscated the materials, passports and mobile phones from the two suspects.
The night shift manager from the Polo Guesthouse, Aung Kyaw told Eleven Media that the two Bangladeshi’s checked into the hostel in the morning and were arrested the very same afternoon.
“They checked in at the guesthouse this morning. In the afternoon, they were arrested by police. Our morning shift manager Tin Maung Myint was also taken to be questioned by police.”
After contacting the guesthouse owner, he said they allowed the two Bangladeshis to stay there after checking their passports.
“I don’t know whether they came in yellow robes or civilian clothes,” he said.
The incident comes as the government tightens security around Myanmar’s main Buddhist sites including the famed Shwedagon Pagoda in central Yangon, following a series of bomb blasts on Sunday at Bodh Gaya in northern India, one of Buddhism’s holiest sites.
From 4.30 in the morning everyday ,chants Buddham sharanam Gachchhammi ,Dhammama Sharanam Gachchhammi,Sangham sharanam Gachchhammi reverberate through the Mahabodhi Mahavihara premises.
Bodhgaya is home to at least 46 Buddhist monasteries from Japan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, China, Mayanmar etc. Monks of these monasteries and the devotees visit the Mahabodhi Mahavihara before dawn and in evening to offer prayer.
Today was no different.
And it will be no different.. the chants for Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha will be louder than a thousands bombs.

Home-grown terror outfit Indian Mujahideen and radicals among Myanmar’s Rohingya Muslims are under the scanner for the series of blasts that rocked Mahabodhi Temple and nearby areas in Bodh Gaya on Sunday even as the lone “suspect” in the case failed to yield much.
Sources in Intelligence Bureau claimed their interest in Myanmar’s Arakan region grew after the R&AW sent inputs about the return of the two founders of the Rohingya Solidarity Association (RSO) — a welfare organisation that has turned militant — to the region in early January.
Arakanese and Rohingya Muslims have clashed a number of times. Animosity toward the Muslim group is widespread among Arakanese, many of whom consider them to be illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.
“The founders of the outfit — Maulana Anwar and Dr Younus — were away to London and Saudi Arabia to create financial channels and to arrange funding,” said an official.

Leh: Condemning the bombings at Bodhgaya in Bihar, the people of Ladakh held a peaceful protest which was started from Chowkhang Vihara and ended at Pologround on 8th July. Leh remained closed from 11.00am to 4.00pm. They also submitted a memorandum to DC asking for speedy investigation and to handover the temple management to Buddhist community. Thousands of people participated in the rally including religious heads, Political Parties. They also demanded the Government of Bihar and the Government of India to ensure safety and security of the world heritage site in future so that no anti-social elements are allowed to carry out such cowardly act.
People took to the streets from morning to enforce the dawn-to-dusk bandh forcing shops and business establishments to close down.
The temple’s sanctum sanctorum and the Bodhi Tree, under which Lord Buddha have attained enlightenment, did not suffer any damage in the blasts.
All the speakers talk about the security lapses that led to the terror attack in the temple town and demanded the temple management to handover to Buddhist community.
President Rinchen Namgyal, Ladakh Buddhist Youth Association said, “Our old Buddhist heritage temple has been attacked in Bodh Gaya. But fortunately with the blessing of the Lord Buddha nothing has been damaged. And on 7th evening a candle march has also been held in Leh to protest against the attack. Today we want to send a message to the world that your anti social element will not work. We pray for the injured for speedy recovery.”
Vice president, LBA Tsewang Thinless said, ‘Buddhist believes in non violence and whosoever tries to attack will not conquer. Buddhist community has never tried to fight in the name of religion. It’s very sad that the temple management is not in the Buddhist hands and the attack is the result of that. We strongly demand the management of the temple to handover to Buddhist community. So that there will be no security lapses.’
President District Congress Committee, Tsering Samphel said, “Today the people all over the world have a lesson to learn from Ladakh whatever we did we did peacefully. We did not shout anti terrorist slogans and we protest peacefully. Security Tightened Up in Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon Due to Blasts at Buddha Gaya of India

Security will be stepped up in Shwedagon pagoda of Yangon Region because of recent bomb blasts at Buddha Gaya in India, according to pagoda trustee sources.

“We’ll step up security and we’re discussing it. Myanmar Police Force has planned security measures. How many security forces are used and where they are deployed are confidential. We are following the instruction of police forces,” said a member of the trustee.
Security is learned to have been stepped up in Maharmuni Yokeshindawmyat Buddha image and Swedawmyat pagoda (the tooth relic of Buddha) in Mandalay, Maharanthtookantha pagoda in Pyin Oo Lwin township and other famous pagodas in Myanmar as in Yangon.
Two monks, one of whom is a Myanmar monk studying in India, the other is a Tibet monk, and five people were injured in eight bomb blasts finding the four unexploded bombs on 7 July, India authorities say.
The President of Sri Lanka has reportedly called on India government to take immediate action against those bombers.

Burma Democratic Concern (BDC) condemns with strongest unequivocal terms available on the series of bombs attacked by Islamic terrorists on Bodh Gaya, Buddhists’ religiously sacred place where Buddha attained the Buddhahood and it is one of the holiest place of worship for millions of Buddhists around the world. Bodh Gaya is located in Gaya district, Bihar State, India.
Burma Democratic Concern (BDC) is very saddened to learn that on 7th July 2013 (Sunday), the Islamic terrorists set off the series of bombs at the Bodh Gaya resulting in two seriously injured. Islamic terrorists had chosen the significantly important date since 7/7 is the 8th anniversary of London bombing by Islamic terrorists where scores of Londoners were killed.
We call for all the justice loving leaders and people around the world to denounce with highest possible terms on Islamic terrorists’ cowardice attacks on Buddhists’ religiously holy place of worship, Bodh Gaya.
Were the serial bomb blasts in Bodh Gaya timed to coincide with an international conference highlighting the plight of Myanmar’s Rohingya community in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia?
Security agencies strongly suspect the blasts to be the handiwork of the Indian Mujahideen (IM) in protest against alleged atrocities by a majority of Buddhists on Rohingyas in Myanmar.
On Sunday itself, the Arakan Rohingya Union (ARU) Conference began in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia with the aim to highlighting the plight of the community and act as a “legitimate representative of the Rohingyas around the world”.

Hosted by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the ARU conference at Jeddah is the second such conference since the setting up of ARU on May 30, 2011.
However, it is not only IM that is on the security agencies’ radar; IB has also set its eyes on Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO), which is now allegedly at the helm of a pan south-Asia terror campaign aimed at destabilising Asean countries through guerrilla attacks and is reorganising itself with a vengeance.
“Our interest in the RSO was aroused after reports of return of its founder members, Maulana Anawar and Dr. Younus, to Myanmar’s Arakan started pouring in from our counterparts in the R&AW in early January,” said an IB official.
The duo had fled to London and Saudi Arabia, respectively, after the Junta had come down hard upon the outfit. They also have a military base-cum-training ground in Bangladesh’s Marichar district, the IB claims.

JIHADIS BACKING ROHINGYA,BENGALI?
Intelligence agencies of the US, Bangladesh and Singapore gathered information about the training of Rohingya Muslim radicals in a Lashkar-e-Taiba camp in Pakistan last May, top government sources said, even as R&AW has identified Rohingya-Buddhist violence in Myanmar as an emerging counter-terrorism challenge.
The R&AW (Research and Analysis Wing) note circulated to the highest levels in the government in January indicated the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was trying to establish a toehold in Myanmar’s Arakan area by building a forum called Difa e Musalman Arakan (Burma) and mobilising a cadre to fight the Myanmar government.
The note spelt out the links between Rohingya radicals with terrorist groups like the LeT and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) of Pakistan, and Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami and Jamaat-e-Mujahideen of Bangladesh.
The note said LeT leaders including Hafiz Saeed were discussing plans to target Myanmar because they felt that the government there was responsible for the plight of Muslims in that country.
Three forces inimical to India — Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence, LeT and JeM — had stepped up operations in the Rohingya belt of Bangladesh’s Chittagong Hill Tracts and a new organisation called Jammat-ul-Arakan had been floated by the extremists, who were running training camps in remote Bandarban district of Bangladesh, adjoining Myanmar.
The note added that Rohingya radicals were receiving funds mainly from Saudi Arabia and training from Pakistan-based operatives, and weapons were being sourced from Thailand.

Hyderabad: Faced with persecution in Myanmar, hundreds of Rohingya Muslims have taken refuge in Hyderabad, apart from several other Indian cities. The trickling of the Rohingyas to the southern city began in 2012 and reports say there could be more than 1,200 Rohingyas in Hyderabad now — in parts of the old city — with most of them engaged in petty jobs.
Meanwhile, police officials in Andhra Pradesh said no link had been established to link the Bodhgaya blasts and those in Hyderabad in February. “We have not come across any such connection. Any comment now would be totally premature,” an intelligence official told HT.
