Four armed men have reportedly taken a hostage leading to a tense standoff with police at an apartment building in Belgium.
Around 30 special police have been called out to the developing situation in Ghent, a city in the north west of the country, this morning.
The Belgium hostage situation comes as the police in Australia continue to deal with a standoff with a suspected gunman in Syndey, who is holding a number of hostages inside a cafe.
BANGKOK, Aug 5 — The Australian government has granted citizenship to the disabled surrogate baby of an Australian couple to cover its treatment cost.
It is the latest development of the case of the baby identified as “Gammy” who was born with Down’s syndrome and heart disease from a Thai surrogate mother serving the Australian couple.
It has turned out that Grammy has a twin sister whom the couple took to Australia while Gammy was left in Thailand. Grammy’s story has drawn global attention.
At Samitivej Sriracha Hospital in Chon Buri, the Thai surrogate mother and Vijit Phanayingphaisal, the hospital’s marketing and public relations chief, told the press that Canberra offered Australian citizenship to Gammy for lifelong medical well being.
The mother said she accepted the offer but would not have the baby treated in Australia as she already received medical payment from an Australian foundation.
She would not let the baby be treated in Bangkok either. She said the treatment in Chon Buri was good enough. (MCOT)

RANONG, 26 March 2014 (NNT)– Thai police have busted a transnational drug ring and confiscated more than 147 kilograms of heroin in the southern province of Ranong.
According to Pol.Gen.Pongsapas Pongcharoen, the Secretary General of the Anti Narcotics Police, Thai police acted on a tip-off from their Australian counterparts that a big trafficking ring would be shipping a huge stash of heroin to Australia, in frozen seafood containers.
Police raided a trading company in Ranong on Thursday evening and found 420 bars of heroin, weighing more than 147 kilograms, hidden in frozen seafood containers.
Both Malaysian and Thai men were arrested and charged with possession of illicit drugs for the purpose of resale.
Pongsapas said police had been closely monitoring the two suspects for some time before making an arrest.
Had all of this heroin found its way onto the streets of Australia, it would have been worth more than three billion baht, said Pongsapas.

Rescuers were searching for several asylum seekers believed to be missing from a boat that sank off Indonesia while heading to Australia. Nearly 190 survivors were brought to safety and nine bodies were recovered.
The sinking occurred days after Prime Minister Kevin Rudd changed Australia’s refugee policy so that people who arrive by boat will no longer be allowed to settle in the country. The move was a response to domestic political pressure and a string of deadly accidents involving rickety boats packed with asylum seekers bound for Australia.
Local police chief Lt. Col. Dedy Kusuma said on Wednesday that 189 people were rescued and nine bodies were recovered after the tugboat sank on Tuesday night about 5 kilometres off the coast of West Java’s Cianjur district. It was not clear how many people were missing.
West Java police spokesman Col. Martinus Sitompul said the survivors included a pregnant Sri Lankan woman who was being treated at a health center in the town of Cidaun. A baby boy and a 10-year-old girl were among the dead.
