Declaration of the 8888 Democratic Uprising Silver Jubilee
8 August 2013, YANGON.

On this day of the 8888 Silver Jubilee, 25 years after the uprising, we, the ethnic and democratic forces, release this declaration after holding collective discussions on 6 and 7 August 2013.

1. We strongly believe that we need to establish a democratic federal state with self-determination and equality.

2. The 2008 Constitution does not guarantee such a democratic federal state. Therefore we strongly believe that the 2008 Constitution must be amended or a new constitution drafted.

3. We strongly believe there is a need to convene a convention that involves all national forces with the goal to achieve peace and national reconciliation, in order to establish a democratic federal state.

We declare that we will continue to fulfill the unfurnished duty of the 8888 uprising with these principles as our cause.

ကၽြႏု္ပ္တုိ႔ တုိင္းရင္းသားအင္အားစုမ်ား၊ ဒီမုိကေရစီအင္အားစုမ်ားသည္ ၂၀၁၃ ခုႏွစ္ ၾသဂုတ္လ ၆ ရက္၊ ၇ ရက္ေန႔မ်ားတြင္ စုစည္းညီညြတ္စြာ ေတြ႕ဆုံေဆြးေႏြးခဲ့ၾကၿပီး ရွစ္ေလးလုံး ၂၅ ႏွစ္တုိင္ခဲ့ေသာ ဤေန႔ဤရက္တြင္ ရွစ္ေလးလုံးဒီမုိကေရစီ အေရးေတာ္ပုံ ေငြရတု ေၾကညာစာတမ္းကုိ ထုတ္ျပန္ ေၾကညာလုိက္သည္။

၁။ ကၽြႏု္ပ္တုိ႔သည္ ကုိယ့္ၾကမၼာကုိယ္ ျပ႒ာန္းပိုင္ခြင့္ရွိ၍ တန္းတူညီမွ်မႈရွိေသာ ဒီမုိကရက္တစ္ ဖက္ဒရယ္ျပည္ေထာင္စု ႏုိင္ငံ ေတာ္သစ္ကုိ ထူေထာင္ရန္ လုိအပ္သည္ဟု အေလးအနက္ ခံယူသည္။

၂။ ၂၀၀၈ ခုႏွစ္ ဖြဲ႔စည္းပုံအေျခခံဥပေဒသည္ ကၽြႏု္ပ္တုိ႔လုိလားေသာ ဒီမုိကရက္တစ္ ဖက္ဒရယ္ျပည္ေထာင္စု ႏုိင္ငံေတာ္သစ္ကုိ ေဖာ္ေဆာင္ေပးႏုိင္ျခင္း မရွိေပ။ သုိ႔ျဖစ္၍ ၂၀၀၈ ခုႏွစ္ ဖြဲ႔စည္းပုံအေျခခံဥပေဒ ျပင္ဆင္ေျပာင္းလဲရန္ သုိ႔မဟုတ္ ဖြဲ႔စည္းပုံ အေျခခံဥပေဒ အသစ္ ျပန္လည္ေရးဆြဲရန္ လုိအပ္သည္ဟု အေလးအနက္ ခံယူသည္။

၃။ ထုိသုိ႔ေဖာ္ေဆာင္ႏုိင္ေရးအတြက္ ၿငိမ္းခ်မ္းေရးႏွင့္ အမ်ိဳးသားျပန္လည္သင့္ျမတ္ေရးကုိ ဦးတည္ေသာ အမ်ိဳးသားအင္အားစု အားလုံးပါဝင္သည့္ ညီလာခံတစ္ရပ္ကုိ က်င္းပရန္လုိအပ္သည္ဟု အေလးအနက္ ခံယူသည္။

ဤသုိ႔ ခံယူသည္ႏွင့္အညီ ရွစ္ေလးလုံးဒီမုိကေရစီအေရးေတာ္ပုံႀကီး၏ မၿပီးဆုံးေသးေသာတာဝန္မ်ားကုိ ဆက္လက္ ထမ္းရြက္ သြားမည္ဟု ထုတ္ျပန္ ေၾကညာလုိက္သည္။ ။

Cash and kinds provided to Meikhtila’s refugees

A civic organization namely Hands of Sympathy comprises Myanmar Motion Picture Association and the 88’ Generation Students has provided cash and kinds to refugees at Meikhtila relief camps on last Monday.

After donation of cash and kinds by Shwe Parimi Sayadaw Ahsin San Dar Di Ka who accompanied by the organization, the Sayadaw delivered the Mittasuta and the wishes for the refugees.

The organization visited all relief camps and comforted them.

“We didn’t go only for donation of cash and kinds to the relief camps. We aim to promote their mental joining with our loving kindness. We, our movie stars, will have to help as we can how difficulties we face,” Chairman Zin Waing of Myanmar Motion Picture Association said.

Myanmar Motion Picture Association has already donated 9.8 million kyats to the refugees and 88’ Generation Students also provided foodstuff to them.

Currently, some requirements have been appeared at five relief camps.

“We are not worry for food and health. But, the shelter is difficult for us,” a refugee Kyi Kyi who is taking shelter at a relief camp in No.1 Meikhtila Basic Education High School said.

The donation is a one-day trip and many artistes accompanied with “the Hands of Sympathy” organization.

Leaders of prominent activist group 88 Generation Students said they plan to form a political party to work for democratization, peace and reconciliation

RANGOON—Leaders of Burma’s prominent activist group 88 Generation Students said they plan to form a political party to work for democratization, peace and reconciliation in the country. Some in the group however, expressed doubts about joining Burmese party politics.

Although no clear time frame has been set for the plan, the new party is likely to compete in the 2015 national elections.

Min Zay Ya, one of the 88 leaders, said the group would continue to focus on strengthening civil society organizations in Burma, but after 2013 they planned to expand their activities and enter Burmese politics.

“Our group will be working as a political party on one side and as an NGO on the other. We all have agreed on that,” said Min Za Ya. “We certainly have a two-way basic principle, but it is just a preliminary stage at the moment.”

From next year onwards, he said, the popular group would hold meetings to form a political party and decide on a future program for the organization.
