“I cannot say whether we will boycott the election or not. In politics, you can’t make predictions. It will depend on the situation. We cannot predict what will happen next. We are not closing off any options, and we have to calculate every possibility,” Suu Kyi said.
The NLD leader continued that the achievement of holding the election is crucial to all levels of Myanmar government, including the election commission, the cabinet and parliament, in addition to the army and the media.
She also told reporters that she has not ruled out the possibility of her party being abolished.
She said the government should not consider delaying the election using the pretext of the peace process.
The NLD was founded on September 27, 1988, and it won a landslide victory in the 1990 general election, hailing 392 of 492 seats in the parliament. However, the military junta refused to recognise the election results and imprisoned most of the elected NLD representative. credit emg media
