Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha Wednesday night announced the lifting of martial law and invoked Section 44 of the interim Constitution to maintain peace and order in the country. The announcement endorsed by His Majesty the King became effective April 1. The announcement reasoned the lifting of the martial law that it was not necessary to keep martial law in the country . However Gen Prayut, in his capacity of the leader of the National Council for Peace and Order, issued another order to maintain peace and order in the country. The order empowers military officer from the rank of sub lieutenant to be law enforcement officer, and empowers military officers to detain person considered detrimental to national security, and to forbid any person to leave the country.
