Police seized Ks 2 billion (US$2.05 million) worth heroin, along with arms and ammunition, while conducting a routine inspection at a checkpoint near the border town of Tachilek in Shan State on July 28.
A white vehicle with two men inside attempted to evade officers at Lwedawkan checkpoint by speeding away. A chase ensued, with the police succeeding in stopping the vehicle. Its 20-year-old driver, Arbi, and a 30-year-old passenger, Arfar, were apprehended. Police later found Ks 2 billion worth heroin in the vehicle along with two M22 rifles, a 9mm pistol, three grenades, a walkie-talkie, and bullets.
The pair was taken to Tachilek Myoma Police Station pending further.

RANONG, 30 July 2014 (NNT) – Mrs.Jirada Deechaiya, Director of Radio Thailand, Ranong has welcomed a delegation from a Myanmar broadcasting station on the occasion of a visit to Ranong Province to exchange experiences and create connections among mass media authorities of the two countries.
The Burmese delegation observed the production of ‘Mingalaba Ranong’ broadcasting through FM 107.25 MHz covering Ranong Province and Kawthaung Township of Myanmar.
This program has been produced for 2 years, and aims to tighten the relationship between the two countries.
The Chief of the Myanmar broadcasting station has also suggested collecting news from the Myanmar government website http://www.moi.gov.mm in order to gain accurate information about Myanmar government activities.
Moreover, they have expressed their pleasure over the Thai-Burmese bilingual program since it will strengthen the relationship of the two countries in business, investment, and tourism.

A new refugee camp is under construction at MongLai Hill, located north of Laiza Township, Kachin State, according to Save the War Victims Committee.
The camp will be the temporary shelter for 50 returned families of war victims fled across Narwan border area to China.
China is sending back the refugees who have sought safe haven due to the renewed fighting between the government and the Kachin Independence Army since 2011.
“In March, the Chinese told me to pick up our war victims. We agreed to the request. We would relocate some 140 war victims from 50 families to the newly-built camp, located in Narwan area of China, said Dwe Pe Hsar, chairperson of the committee.
He said his committee had no option but to comply with the Chinese request even though it was facing a difficult financial situation. This was the reason why the committee had to seek financial assistance from Mitta Foundation for the camp construction, he added.
The construction is expected to complete by next month.
The Manwaigyi refugees fled to China in 2012 and remained there after settling into new homes.
“First, the Chinese authorities agreed to accept the war victims and later changed their mind to have them returned. There are presently eight refugee camps,” said Dwe Pe Hsar. cr. eleven media

Namkham locals found two dead bodies in the corn field near Naungma harbor and the branch to Manhaung village’s harbor on yesterday evening.
Each body was attcked with gunshots and knives cuts, Battalion commander Win Thura Htun had been shot at his chest and the chop was on his head, while his fellow Corporal, his name unknown, had been stabbed in the stomach through to his back.Both Chinese and Burmese officers had to check on the deaths’ faces at the crime site before deciding which nationalities they are. 26 July 2014, prisoners in Kyaukmae township prison (Kyaukmae is in a North Shan State) broke the prison at 6:00pm and tried to run away.
Prisoners pushed and hit the jailors when they came to give the prisoners blanket. At that time, the jailors on duty were First lieutenant Tun Khain Soe, Sergeant Khin Hla Hte and Corporal Noun Noun all of them were hit by the prisoners. Then the prisoners broke the prison and to run away.
After the prisoners hit the jailors and ran, the jailers shoot them. Two of the prisoners died on the spot and the other one was seriously injured. Now 5 jailors and 1 prisoner were being cured at Kyaukmae hospital.
In the case, the prisoners broke the prison, the police officers were punished because they used the guns that have not been permitted to use at the prison such as M-22 and AK-33.

A police investigation surrounding possible money laundering in the buying of shares in the Asia Green Development Bank was concluded on July 28 according to senior police sources.
The results of the probe into the acquisition of 15 per cent of AGD Bank shares by Aye Ne Win, a grandson of former military dictator Ne Win, have been reported to relevant authorities.
“Investigations of whether share transfer involves clean money have been completed in line with the Anti-Money Laundering Law. We asked both the share buyer and seller to present the source of cash spent in purchasing shares. Together with the figures we obtained after investigation, their data has been reported to relevant authorities. If their actions breach the law, we will bring them to court,” said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity.
AGD Bank has sold 90,000 shares under the approval of the Central Bank of Myanmar. Yin Htwe, Khin Win Maw and Thura Myint from Mikko group bought most of the shares while Aye Ne Win reportedly bought 15 per cent, who plans to buy another 60 per cent, and up to 85 per cent within six months.
Aye Ne Win said that his younger brother, Kyaw Ne Win, takes leading role in share acquisition.
An investigation team was formed by officials from customs, monetary investigation police and the Bureau of Special Investigation. The price of the shares could not be revealed.
“We currently have inspected the beginning of the business and will monitor throughout its operation. We will take close watch to know if the cash driving the bank is supporting criminals, black money or laundering,” continued the police officer.
Late dictator Ne Win’s son-in-law Aye Zaw Win and his grandsons [sons of Aye Zaw Win] Aye Ne Win, Kyaw Ne Win and Zwe Ne Win were sentenced to death for treason in 2002. Their sentences were reduced to prison terms.
After serving more than 10 years, they were released under general amnesty in 2012 and 2013.
Sandar Win, the daughter of Ne Win, was put under house arrest while her husband and her sons were in jail.
During their detention and the period after their release, earnings from their business did not shock the public.

The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) on Tuesday gave a green light to the Transport Ministry’s eight-year infrastructure development plan which highlights two high-speed dual track railway lines at 741 billion baht and the construction of six metre-gauge standard dual track railway routes covering a total distance of 887 kilometres at the cost of over 127 billion baht.
The two 1.435 metre wide or standard gauge high-speed dual track railway lines will be built from Nong Khai to Mab Ta Phut in the Eastern Seaboard, and from Chiang Khong in Chiang Rai to Ban Phachi railway junction in Lopburi.
The ministry’s eight-year infrastructure development scheme begins next year and last until 2022.
But for the six one-metre gauge railway track projects, they will begin on an urgent basis beginning from this year until next year.
The two standard-gauge routes are seen to replace the much-criticised high-speed train project initiated by the Yingluck government involving four routes, Bangkok to Chiang Mai, Bangkok to Rayong, Bangkok to Nong Khai, and Bangkok to Padang Besar.
Approved at the meeting of the NCPO at yesterday’s meeting, Transport ministry’s permanent secretary Soithip Traisuth said the two new routes could also served as a transport link between Thailand and South China.

One of the most wanted Muslim insurgents in commanding level was arrested last night by a combined force of soldiers, police and rangers in Nong Chik district of Pattani.
He was identified as Hasan Sate.
He was taken from a hide-out at a house in Ban Don Yang of Nong Chik.
At first he claimed he was not Hasan Sate but his name is Manasseh.
He returned to the village to celebrate the Hari Raya festival.
But security authorities said he is one of the most wanted insurgent at commanding level and was wanted for several bomb and gun attacks inthe South and particularly at a army field base in Thepa district of Songkhla.
He joined another leader Seree Mamu in that attack, authorities.
Security officials have escorted him to the Forward Command of the Internal Security Operation Command for further questioning and for forensic test of explosive chemicals. thai pbs photo archive
