SAKAEW, 15 July 2014 (NNT)-Seventy-two Cambodian nationals – including seven children – have been arrested and detained by Thai immigration and Military troops in Sakaew Province for illegal entry into Thailand. The group was caught while they were sneaking into Thailand.
Military officers on patrol in Aranyaprathet District found a group of Cambodians strolling 500 meters away from the Thai-Cambodian border. The authorities intercepted the group to check on documents. The military and police then arrested the group for illegally entering Thailand after it was found that they had no documents or passports.
These illegal foreign workers were on their way back to resume work in Thailand, after the earlier so-called rapid exodus when inaccurate rumors of arrests spread, after which most have returned to work in Thailand, with the proper documentation .
However, none of this group was carrying a passport or border pass. They confessed that they are a group of Cambodians who have not been able to obtain passports, so they are not qualified to register for work in Thailand.
Undocumented Cambodian workers who are now facing a financial crisis are believed likely to sneak back into Thailand in bigger numbers over time. –
