Redshirts foil charity concert for children in Sakhon Nakhon

A charity concert organised to raise funds to support education for disadvantaged children was foiled by some 300 angry redshirt supporters of the government just because they claimed the band played at the anti-government rally in Bangkok.
The redshirt protesters on loudspeaker trucks and pickup cars blocked the entrance to the lawn in front of the second bus terminal in Sakhon Nakhon municipal area on Nitayo Sakhon Nakhon-Udon road where the Pongsit Kampee band was scheduled to play at 6.00 p.m.

Their leaders ordered organiser of the concert how to call off the show with claim that the head singer of the band Pongsit Kampee and his band are strong supporters of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) and also held concert shows at rally sites.

About 100 police were moved in to keep peace and order while the redshirts led by Sayant Thanakiatpaisarl opened talk with the organiser with ultimatum that the concert must be cancelled because its singer supported PDRC leader Suthep Thugsuban.

But despite of desperate attempt to convince the redshirts that the concert was aimed at raising fund to help disadvantaged children in the areas to have more educational opportunities, they rejected with only an ultimatum to call it off.

The organiser later agreed and apologised to audience for safety reason and for sake of peace.

The redshirts kept watch until the organiser removed its stage, packed all equipment and moved out. They later dispersed at about 7.30 p.m. cr. thai pbs engl.
