Two M 79 grenades were fired into the rally site of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee at the Sala Chalermprakiat pavillion in Chonbui Muang district where 2,000 demonstrators were attending but both missed the target.
The two grenades landed at the office of the Tambon Bangsai Municipality at about 9.30 p.m Friday night damaging glass panes and cars parked nearby.
EOD police said the perpetrators fired the grenades from a running vehicle and therefore missed the crowd a distance.
If the grenades landed in the rally site, casualties would be high.
Activist entertainers Yong Lookyee and Japong Sarakam were speakers on the stage when the grenades were fired.

Chiang Mai was rocked by three separate bomb explosions late Friday night, causing injuries to three people, and damages to cars.
The first explosion happened at Nong Hoi petrol station at 9.30 p.m. where three persons were injured.
The second bomb attack was reported at Andaman Seafood restaurant on Mahidol road at about 10.10 p.m. Three cars were damaged.
The third explosion happened at Boonrawd Brewery Co office in Sarapee district. Two hand grenades were hurled into the compound and landed near the warehouse. One grenade exploded but another was dud.
Police said they have not yet established the three separate grenade attacks would have any political links..
