THAILAND: National Police Chief has accepted the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC)’s demand for legal action against those responsible for the recent armed attacks that killed four children.

BANGKOK, 26 February 2014 (NNT) – The National Police Chief has accepted the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC)’s demand for legal action against those responsible for the recent armed attacks that killed four children. PDRC core figures today led supporters in a march to the Royal Thai Police Headquarters on Rama I Road. The group was donning black as an act of mourning for the fallen victims of violent attacks in Khao Saming district of Trat province and in front of Big C Department Store on Ratchadamri Road in Bangkok. Two children died in each of the incidents. The gathering outside the police office was aimed to call on the authorities to bring the culprits to justice. PDRC Secretary-General Suthep Thaugsuban read out a letter which he had prepared for submission to the police, demanding that a panel of righteous and honorable officials be set up to take charge of the investigations. The police opened the front gate to allow protest leaders to come in while National Police Chief Pol Gen Adul Saengsingkaew accepted the group’s letter by himself. The atmosphere was reportedly amicable and the PDRC supporters presented a bouquet of white flowers to the police. The Police Chief informed the group that his deputy, Pol Gen Ek Angsananont, had been assigned to handle all cases of the PDRC. He also affirmed that the cases of the two deadly attacks at Khao Saming and Big C would be expedited.

เหตุร่วมกันพยายามฆ่า จับโยนลงน้ำแม่น้ำบางปะกง!!

ด้วยเมื่อวันที่ 1 มีนาคม 2557 เวลาประมาณ 21.30 น. เจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจ สภ.บางปะกง ได้รับแจ้งจาก หน่วยกู้ภัยบางปะกง ว่ามีเหตุชายถูกคนร้ายได้ทำร้ายร่างกายและโยนทิ้งลงบริเวณบนสะพานข้ามแม่น้ำบางปะกง โดยนำตัวไปรักษาที่ รพ.บางปะกง

ต่อมา พ.ต.ต.สถาพร สอนเต็ม พงส.สภ.บางปะกง ได้เดินทางไปสอบปากคำ นายยืม นิลหล้า (ผู้ได้รับบาดเจ็บ) ได้ให้การว่า

เมื่อวันที่ 24 ก.พ.2557 เวลาประมาณ 09.00 น. ขณะเดินอยู่ที่บริเวณสวนลุมพินี ปรากฏว่ามีชายจำนวน 2 คน อ้างว่าเป็นการ์ด กปปส. ขอตรวจค้น เมื่อพบบัตรประจำตัว นปช. จึงได้นำตัวไปกักขังไว้ที่ชุมนุมโดยทำการมัดมือมัดเท้า จนกระทั่งวันที่ 1 มี.ค.2557 ได้ถูกชายฉกรรจ์ซึ่งอ้างว่าเป็นการ์ด กปปส. บอกว่าจะพาไปส่งบ้าน โดยใช้ผ้าปิดตา แล้วนำตัวขึ้นรถกระบะ โดยมีชาย 2 คน นั่งประกบซ้าย-ขวา ส่วนด้านหน้าได้ยินเสียคนคุยกัน 2 คน เมื่อมาถึงที่แม่น้ำบางปะกงได้โยนนายยืมฯ ลงน้ำ แต่นายยืมฯ สามารถแก้มัดจนหลุด แล้วพยายามว่ายน้ำไปที่ตอม่อสะพาน จากนั้นมีคนพายเรือมาพบเห็น จึงได้เข้าช่วยเหลือและนำส่ง รพ.บางปะกง ต่อไป

คดีนี้ ทางเจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจสืบสวน สภ.บางปะกงและ สืบสวน จว.ฉะเชิงเทรา ได้ลงพื้นที่สืบสวนต่อไป

THAILAND : UDD- Pro-govt protesters seize anti-graft office over rice probe

NONTHABURI, Feb 26 – Pro-government activists sealed off the office of National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) today and charged the independent agency with prejudice in its investigation on negligence of duty charges against the prime minister in relation to the rice pledging scheme.

The demonstrators, mainly from the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), charged the NACC with having a double standard for implicating caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra in alleged corruption in the state’s rice subsidies since 2012.

The protesters handed over an open letter to Suchart Chimnoi, director of the NACC Information and Special Affairs Office, calling on the NACC to perform its duty with fairness and justice.

Ms Yingluck was summoned to acknowledge charges in the rice pledging programme in her capacity as chairperson of the National Rice Policy Committee at NACC headquarters tomorrow.

NACC member Vicha Mahakhun earlier said she could ask to postpone the schedule if engaged in an important obligation.

In case she fails to appear before the NACC, the agency could choose to deliver the charges to her by mail. She is required to acknowledge the charges in writing or verbally.

The pro-government protesters said they would set up a stage in front of the NACC office and vowed to seize other independent agencies.

The protesters chained the main gate of NACC office, closed every entrance and exit, and demanded a meeting with Mr Vicha whom they wanted to be removed from the rice probing committee.

BURMA MYANMAR : No plans to award 2008 charter delegates, says minister

A minister from the president’s office has said that there are no plans as of yet to confer honorary titles to delegates of the National Convention who drafted the 2008 Constitution.

Minister Soe Maung was replying to questions from Lower House MP Khin Maung Nyo of the ruling Union Solidarity and Development party at Lower House parliamentary session on February 24.

“The Section 205 of the Constitution stated that the President might confer honorary titles and awards in accord with the law… The government servants, party leaders, ethnic and public delegates who made contribution to the writing of the 2008 Constitution are now growing old. Some have found hard times in their age,” said MP Khin Maung, from the USDP.

He added that some were living with hopes that the government that will recognise them before their death. For that reason, he wanted to know if the government should confer honorary titles to all National Convention delegates who served the country from 1993 to 2007.

Parliament has formed a committee to reform the current constitution which is widely seen as a necessary next step for Myanmar’s political reforms.

The implementation committee for constitutional reform is tasked with amending the current charter six months before the 2015 elections.

International experts have pointed out that the 2008 Constitution is one of the most difficult to reform. The current law requires more than 75 percent of both houses of parliament to approve an amendment, after which it must be ratified by more than 50 percent of eligible voters in a national referendum.
