First Division commander Maj-Gen Wara Bunyasit has denied as groundless a widely-circulated report that elements of his division were involved in a firefight with the police at Pan Fah bridge on Tuesday in which five people were killed and more 60 injured.
He said that all his men who were deployed at protest sites, including Pan Fah bridge, were unarmed and their main responsibility was to take good care of and protect the protesters.
Regarding the clash between protesters and police yesterday, the commander said his men had coordinated with volunteers and medical staff in helping both the police and protesters without discrimination.
He added that he had talked with Pol Maj-Gen Vicharnvach Borirakkul, commander of first division of metropolitan police bureau after the violent incident.
