PDRC enters reform phase: Launches “Robin Hood Rallies” to fundraise for farmers’ fight; Inaugurates Reform Roundtables this Saturday

(6 Feb. 2014) PDRC spokesperson Akanat Promphan announced that the PDRC is launching a succession of “Robin Hood” rallies to directly fundraise for the farmers’ fight to get paid by Yingluck Shinawatra’s caretaker government. 

“The first Robin Hood rally will commence tomorrow at the center of Thailand’s business and financial district – Silom,” revealed Akanat. “Similar to the mythical yeoman – except for the robbing of course – we will be soliciting donations for the farmers and handing them all proceeds so they can continue their quest for compensation from Yingluck’s government as they see fit. The route details will be announced by Kamnan Suthep this evening.”

Akanat emphasized that the PDRC was neither interfering in the farmers’ movement nor raising funds in connection with the rice pledging scheme. “That would be an impossible feat given the massive amount of money that Yingluck and her government owes farmers. We are simply raising funds so farmers have the freedom to pursue their rice payment,” Akanat declared.

Reform Roundtables

The PDRC is also jumpstarting its “Restart Thailand” phase this Saturday by officially inaugurating the first in its series of “Reform Roundtables.”

“The series is called ‘uniting for reform’ (in Thai, “สานพลังสู่ปฏิรูป”) and is a roundtable forum to solicit input on reform guidelines from the public and professional groupings,” explained Akanat. “Spearheaded by the Thai Development Forum, the first roundtable this Saturday will focus on those working in medicine.”

Spokesperson Akanat will be the principal roundtable coordinator. The reform series will be held at the Bangkok Art & Culture Centre (BACC) and will likely be a daily event

(7 ก.พ.) ผู้สื่อข่าวรายงานว่า ได้รับแจ้งจากเกษตรกรชาวนาที่เรียกร้องทวงเงินจำนำข้าวที่ศูนย์ราชการจังหวัดกำแพงเพชรว่า พบหญิงชราตรอมใจเสียชีวิตที่บ้านหลังหนึ่ง หมู่บ้านคลองสีนวลเหนือ ตำบลธัมรงค์ อำเภอเมืองกำแพงเพชร จึงได้เดินทางไปตรวจสอบ

ที่เกิดเหตุเป็นบ้านไม้ยกพื้น มีแค่ฝากระดานข้างบ้าน ไม่กั้นห้องภายในบ้านนั้นโล่ง มีชาวบ้านจำนวนนับสิบคน กำลังช่วยกันจัดเตรียม โต๊ะ หมู่บูชา และอาสนะ สำหรับพระสงฆ์ และมีโลงเย็น ตั้งอยู่กลางบ้าน นอกจากนี้ยังมีสัปเหร่อมาทำพิธีโลงศพ มีร่าง นางปรางค์ ภู่นาท อายุ 81 ปี เจ้าบ้านเสียชีวิต จากนั้นได้ช่วยกันนำบรรจุในโลง เตรียมจัดงานสวดพระอภิธรรมศพกันในคืนวันนี้

นางจำนง พูลสวัสดิ์ อายุ 54 ปี ลูกสาวของแม่เฒ่าที่เสียชีวิต เปิดเผยว่า ครอบครัวมีด้วยกัน 5 คน และมีน้องเขย นายสุรัตน์ สุขคง อายุ 47 ปี เพิ่งเสียชีวิตจากอุบัติเหตุ ถูกรถชน ขณะกลับจากทำนาระหว่างทางกลับถึงบ้าน ต้องไปกู้ยืมเงินมา 3 หมื่นบาท ทำศพสวดได้ 2 คืนก็เผา เพราะไม่มีเงิน

ต่อมาได้จำนำรถจักรยานยนต์ เพื่อรักษาแม่ที่ตรอมใจล้มป่วยตาม พ่อก็ป่วยเป็นอัมพฤกษ์ เนื่องจากมีหนี้สิน จากการเช่านา 40 ไร่ และนำข้าวเข้าโครงการรับจำนำ แต่ไม่ได้รับเงินมา 5 เดือนแล้ว จำนวนกว่า 3 แสนบาท
ขณะที่ชาวบ้านในละแวกเดียวกัน ต่างมาช่วยกันจัดเตรียมสถานที่งานศพ ต่างก็พบกับปัญหาเงินขายข้าวด้วยเช่นเดียวกัน และประสบกับปัญหาในการครองชีพ และเงินหมุนเวียนลงทุนในการทำนารอบใหม่ ที่ขณะนี้ยังไม่รู้ชะตากรรมของตนเอง ก็ได้แต่วอนให้ทุกฝ่าย เห็นใจชาวนาก็กำลังประสบปัญหาทุกข์ยากอยู่ขณะนี้

What was the feeling on the day knowing that the court issued a warrant of arrest?

 

 

It is not different from what I expected because there has been a sign of unfairness since the beginning of the request of warrant of arrest. In principle, for example, an inquiry official has to issue summon for investigation before requesting a warrant of arrest. When the warrant of arrest was issued, the requestor and the charged person must have a chance to present to the court according to the rights they entitle to. However, the situation does not go at that way. The charged person’s right is lessened: from the right at inquiry official level to the right to present to the court. The charged person thus can expect that for what is happening there need to be a further request for justice from the court. Therefore the opposition and appeal against the warrant of arrest has been prepared in order to be able to appeal against the warrant of arrest in due time. If such appeal cannot be performed, the charged person will make a written request to extend the warrant of arrest in accordance with the right he should have, claiming the necessary causes of what the charged person is doing.

In my opinion, I personally think that the game must be ended more quickly so that the blood will not be exhausted before we reach the goal. At this time, I am just as a war elephant stepping down to warfare; it is hard to avoid spears and lances. Now the duty of the war elephant, like me, is to rush and fight to overcome this battle without being discouraged and afraid. There is nothing to be afraid and lose but the life that I aim to devote. Since the first time that I think to fight against the tyrant, I have never thought to have life to return to the temple, as can be seen from every situation that the PDRC 7+2 has proceeded that I am always at the spearhead in any danger situation.

Because I think that if I die but can lessen distress and vexation of Thai people, can bring the victory to the country and to Thai people, safety to the royal institution and relief to the king, and can wipe the tyrant out of the country, I am glad to die and to lose because my death and loss will be worthy as I can have a chance to repay to the country; I regard them as a happy, dignified death and loss.
Therefore, from now on, no matter what danger happens, I am glad to use my body, heart and life to protect all of my brothers who fight with me and share the same ideology at any times without hesitation. I am doing it with my pride and I am happy to do it

Two Myanmar Rakhine leaders survive assassination attempt in Kuala Lumpur

In what is suspected to have been an assassination attempt, two Myanmar political party leaders narrowly escaped death when a motorcycle pillion rider fired several shots in their direction in Bukit Bintang, two days ago.

Rakhine Nationalities Development Party chairman, Dr Aye Maung, and Arakan League for Democracy party chairman, Aye Thor Aung, together with two other Myanmar nationals were in a BMW car in Jalan Alor when the shots were fired about 11.30pm.

As the shots went wide, the gunman escaped from the scene in the motorcycle ridden by an accomplice.

Initial police investigations have not ruled out that the duo could be Myanmar nationals.

According to a source, the leaders had just left a shopping centre (Plaza Low Yat) when their vehicle was attacked by the two men.

“Following the shooting, the car with Aye Maung sped to a hotel in the capital before a police report was lodged.

“No one was injured in the incident,” the source told Bernama today.

Criminal Investigation Department deputy chief, ACP Khairi Ahrasa confirmed the incident.

He said investigations were under way to determine the motive for the attempted murder.
