THAILAND State owned Krungthai bank denies it will make a loan to finance rice scheme

The state-owned Krungthai bank today denied report that it is considering to extend rice loans to the caretaker government.

The bank’s board chairman Payungsak Chartsuthipol insisted today that the bank executives have not yet considered any proposal to provide 20 billion baht/month at a board meeting today to finance the rice-pledging scheme as reported on the social media.

He said the bank also has not received any invitation from the Finance Minister Kittirat na Ranong to join the loan auction.

He assured that the bank would conduct every business with regard to the laws and with caution.

The Public Debt Managing Office has invited commercial and state banks to hear details of its second round of 40 billion baht loan auction today.

The reaction of the state bank Krungthai came after the PDRC leader Suthep Thaugsuban last night warned of possible retaliation if any bank cooperates in providing rice loans to the caretaker government to pay farmers.

One of the retaliatory measure is a call for all people to withdraw all their deposits from bank which finances the rice loans.

กองบัญชาการตำรวจนครบาลขอแถลงข่าวเหตุการณ์ที่น่าสนใจดังต่อไปนี้
การเลือกตั้งสมาชิกสภาผู้แทนราษฎรในวันอาทิตย์ที่ ๒ กุมภาพันธ์ ๒๕๕๗ ที่ผ่านมา กองบัญชาการตำรวจนครบาลได้สรุปสถิติข้อมูลการรับแจ้งความคดีที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการเลือกตั้ง ดังต่อไปนี้
๑. คดีกล่าวโทษคณะกรรมการการเลือกตั้ง จำนวน ๑๑ คดี ข้อหา “เป็นเจ้าพนักงานปฏิบัติหน้าที่โดยมิชอบ” ตามประมวลกฎหมายอาญามาตรา ๑๕๗ และ “ร่วมกันเป็นกรรมการเลือกตั้งฯ หรือผู้ได้รับการแต่งตั้งให้ช่วยเหลือการปฏิบัติงานในการเลือกตั้ง จงใจไม่ปฏิบัติตามหน้าที่ หรือกระทำอื่นใดเพื่อขัดขวางมิให้เป็นไปตามกฎหมาย ประกาศ ระเบียบ หรือคำสั่งของคณะกรรมการการเลือกตั้ง” ตามมาตรา ๒๐ แห่งพระราชบัญญัติประกอบรัฐธรรมว่าด้วยการเลือกตั้งสมาชิกสภาผู้แทนราษฎรและการได้มาซึ่งวุฒิสภา พ.ศ.๒๕๕๐
โดยได้มีการแจ้งความร้องทุกข์ไว้ที่ สน.ดินแดง, สน.ลาดพร้าว, สน.หัวหมาก, สน.บึงกุ่ม, สน.ยานนาวา, สน.บางรัก, สน.ปทุมวัน (๒ คดี) และสน.บางมด (๓ คดี)

๒. คดีกล่าวโทษกลุ่ม กปปส. เดินทางไปขัดขวางการเลือกตั้ง จำนวน ๔ คดี ตาม ม.๗๖ แห่งพระราชบัญญัติประกอบรัฐธรรมว่าด้วยการเลือกตั้งสมาชิกสภาผู้แทนราษฎรและการได้มาซึ่งวุฒิสภา พ.ศ.๒๕๕๐ กรณี “ห้ามมิให้ผู้ใดกระทำการใดโดยไม่มีอำนาจโดยชอบด้วยกฎหมาย เพื่อมิให้ผู้มีสิทธิเลือกตั้งสามารถใช้สิทธิได้”
โดยได้มีการแจ้งความร้องทุกข์ไว้ที่ สน.พญาไท, สน.ดินแดง, สน.ทุ่งสองห้อง, และสน.ธรรมศาลา

๓. คดีฉีกบัตรเลือกตั้ง ตามมาตรา ๑๔๘ แห่งพระราชบัญญัติประกอบรัฐธรรมว่าด้วยการเลือกตั้งสมาชิกสภาผู้แทนราษฎรและการได้มาซึ่งวุฒิสภา กรณี “ทำบัตรเลือกตั้งชำรุดหรือเสียหาย หรือให้เป็นบัตรเสีย” จำนวน ๑ คดี โดยได้มีการแจ้งความร้องทุกข์ไว้ที่ สน.มีนบุรี

๔. กรณีผู้ไม่ได้ใช้สิทธิในวันเลือกตั้งฯ เดินทางมาลงประจำวันไว้เป็นหลักฐาน จำนวน ๘,๖๗๖ ราย

BURMA MYANMAR : Reporters being detained for exposure of secret weapons factory

A reporter from the Unity Weekly News Journal was detained on Friday in relation to a article about a secret weapons factory in Pauk Township, in central Myanmar. 

The Unity Journal’s CEO, as well as three other reporters, are also being questioned after the journal published two stories revealing the existence of a chemical weapons factory built on confiscated farmland.

Lu Maw Naing was arrested at 11:10 pm on January 31 at his home in Pauk Township, Magway Region. The reporter’s wife confirmed the arrest, adding that he had since been transferred to Pakokku and charged under the 1923 Burma Official Secrets Act.

“They told us that they were not arresting him and the township administrator wanted to ask him some questions. There were eight policemen and one ward administrator. He was treated nicely but when he arrived there they told us that they have arrested Ko Lu Maw Naing,” said the reporter’s wife, Lwin Lwin Myint.

BURMA MYANMAR : living standard of farmers in these days lower than colonial era

The living standard of farmers in Myanmar is much lower than the colonial era, according to the National League for Democracy (NLD) and Member of Parliament Myint Thein on 31 January.

He was speaking on the occasion of Farmers’ Summit of lowland area. The event was attended by farmers from 25 townships of Magway Region. It is the very first to hold this kind of summit since the new Government took place and farmers’ union was formed.

“Till today, farmers of our country don’t get equality as our late General Aung San had said. We couldn’t able to create our own fate. Our lands have been grabbed with force. When we asked to reclaim our land, we have been arrested. To protect this kind of situation, a farmers union must be formed,” said Myint Thein who is also a member of investigation for land grabbing.

The farmers attended the summit also discussed matters mostly on forced land grabbing, moving to another places as there’s no land for cultivation, and scarcity of workers due to migration.

“The lives of farmers are like repeating in the same history. Farmers are always sufferers while cronies and military rulers are the winners,” said Sein Tun, MP of Htantabin township constituency in Bago Region.

Magway Myit Kwayt Ayeyar social network gave training to farmers for about two years on farming laws and now the summit could convene.  Messages have been sent to the summit from some political and social organizations.
