Seven Bengalis, including two temporary citizenship card or white card holders, were arrested yesterday for illegally entering Yangon together with an unlicensed car, according to Hmawby Township Police Force and Immigration and National Registration Department.

According to the investigation, the arrested Bengalis are said to be from Kyauktaw Township, Rakhine State. A man named Aung Moe Htaik was to drive them to Shwepyitha Bus Terminal in Yangon for Ks 3.2million, of which he had received Ks 800,000 as a deposit.

Acting on a tip-off, the police and immigration officials stopped a Pajero with number plate (3C/8449) at a check point on No.4 Road but the car did not stop. The authorities however managed to intercept the car at the corner of Hmawby Township Air Force-74.

When arrested, the seven Bengalis were found together with some cash and materials such as a wallet and mobile phones while the car they had ridden was also found to be unlicensed.

The Immigration and National Registration Department is questioning the arrested Bengalis, who are likely to face legal action for their illegal entry.
