Security forces clash with locals in Letpadaungtaung area-video

Security forces in Letpadaungtaung copper-mine project area clashed with the local people on the road connecting Moegyo Pyin Village and Setel Village in Sarlingyi Township, Sagaing Region on November 13.

The conflict started around 9am as the security forces put barricades across the road just outside Moegyo Pyin Village, which is located beside Pathein-Monywa Highway. Then, nearly 150 locals gathered and demanded the security for stopping and removing the barricades.

“Since 8pm on the night of November 12, the police came to the road. They built the barricades during the night and closed the road. On the morning, they did not allow us to pass it,” said Kyaw Myint Lay from the central part of Moegyo Pyin Village.

“The road they blocked has always been used by the villagers. It is not also on the compensated land, and it is far from the project site. When I went there to get some grass for the cows, my cart wasn’t allowed to pass. They said I have to sign to go in,” said a woman from the southern part of Moegyo Pyin Village.

There were arguments between the villagers and the police. A large number of police were sent there to contain the clash.

Sarlingyi Township’s chief official Kyaw Thaung also came to the place and said “Blocking is because the area falls in the project land. It is also because there is a protest camp on Ingyin Mountain.

These farm-lands are actually state-owned. These villages are also not legal ones. So, they can be confiscated anytime.”

A total of 200 security people were there that afternoon, trying to manage the conflict situation that was still going tense by 1 pm.

THAILAND: Troops to remain along Thai-Cambodian border till further notice

SURIN, 13 November 2013 (NNT) –Although the border situation is peaceful, Thai troops will remain positioned along the Thai-Cambodian border near Phra Viharn Temple until further orders have been received, according to Commander-in-Chief Prayuth Chan-ocha.On Tuesday, Thai commanders of forces along the border in Surin met their Cambodian counterparts at Prasat Ta Khwai historic site to foster good relations and to make sure that each commander had access to his counterpart’s direct line, to ensure that communications can be made quickly in case of urgent matters. The Thai and Cambodian commanders also had lunch together, surrounded by the scenic setting of the historical site. Army chief Prayuth asserted that Thai soldiers would maintain the country’s sovereignty and protect the border area until they receive further notice. He noted that negotiations on the disputed area around the Phra Viharn Temple were to be handled by the working committee staffed by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Internal Security officials. BANGKOK, 14 November 2013 (NNT) – Prime Minister and Defense Minister Yingluck Shinawatra told the joint sitting of Parliament this morning that she had never officially announced the government’s acceptance of the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) verdict on the Phra Viharn Temple case. However, she clarified by reiterating what she stated before; that whatever the ICJ’s verdict may be, the relationship between Thailand and Cambodia will still stand, and that the government will continue to protect the nation’s sovereignty. The Thai Ambassador to the Netherlands stated that the ICJ had no power in determining the official borders between Thailand and Cambodia. Furthermore, he also stressed that Thailand did not lose its Phu Makhua region to Cambodia; and that the 1:200,000 map was deemed irrelevant to the case. Meanwhile, Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva agreed with the government’s stance of not yet officially accepting the ICJ’s verdict, as it is not relatively clear how much land Thailand will lose to Cambodia. Moreover, he urged Ms. Yinglcuk to further clarify the issue to the public.

An 11-member delegation led by secretary-general Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu and party from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) visited Nay Pyi Taw, the administrative capital of Myanmar, on November 13.

The international media said that the OIC’s representatives will meet with the senior officials of the government in Nay Pyi Taw and they will tour on Friday to Sittwe, the capital of Rakhine State, where they are going to observe the current situation of the Bengalis.

Later, the OIC delegates will meet with Myanmar’s opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi on Saturday and they will leave for home on next day.

President’s spokesperson Ye Htut told Eleven Media on Tuesday that the OIC delegation has no plan to meet with President Thein Sein during their visit.

He added that the OIC officials will also meet with the members of Rakhine State Peace and Development Central Committee and the members of parliament.

The visiting OIC members will not only observe the rehabilitation tasks in Rakhine State but also meet with the leaders of the two sides to mediate.

“OIC officials have no plan to meet with the president. Their visit has nothing to do with opening an OIC office. The purpose is to help address the Rakhine conflict and study the resettlements there. They will not meet the Islamic members either. They will meet with the Rakhine nationals,” said Ye Htut, who once argued that the OIC didn’t need to intervene in the Rakhine issue.

The OIC is an international Islamic organisation consisting of 57 members and is the largest international organisation after the United Nations. Established on September 25, 1969,

45-member states of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC, now Organisation of Islamic Cooperation) adopted the Cairo Declaration of Human Rights in Islam (CDHRI) on 5 August 1990 which, despite its claim to be a general guidance for member states of the OIC and complement the UDHR, undermines many of the rights the UDHR is supposed to guarantee. When implemented, the CDHRI essentially removes the universality that underpins the UDHR, providing the 45 signatories and all of their citizens with a set of human rights based on an undefined interpretation of Shari’a law. The CDHRI clearly limits the rights enshrined in the UDHR and the International Covenants and cannot be viewed as complementary to the Universal Declaration.

ျဖစ္စဥ္မွာ ႏုိ၀င္ဘာ ၁၃ ရက္၊ နံနက္ ၁၀ နာရီခြဲခန္႔က ထန္းတပင္ၿမိဳ႕နယ္ ၿမိဳ႕မရဲစခန္းတြင္ အမႈဖြင့္ တုိင္ၾကားခံရသူ (ပ) ၈၂/၂၀၁၃၊ နယ္ေျမပုိင္နက္ က်ဴးေက်ာ္မႈ ပုဒ္မ ၄၄၇/၄၂၇ ျဖင့္ အမႈဖြင့္ခံထားရသူ လယ္သမား ကုိငယ္ အသက္၃၀ (ဘ) ဦးေမာင္ဦး၊ ေအာင္းႀကီး၊ တေျပးရြာ၊ ထန္းတပင္ၿမိဳ႕နယ္ ေနသူအား ထန္းတပင္ၿမိဳ႕မ ရဲစခန္းမွဴး ဒုရဲမွဴး ၀င္းႏုိင္၊ တေျပး ရဲကင္းမွဴး ရဲအုပ္မ်ဳိး၀င္းထြန္း၊ ဒုတပ္ၾကပ္ စုိးလင္း၊ ဒုတပ္ၾကပ္ ေဇာ္ကုိလတ္၊ တပ္သား ဇင္ကုိဦး၊ တပ္သား ဥာဏ္လင္း၊ တပ္သား ေမာင္ေမာင္တင့္ေ၀၊ တပ္သား ေအာင္ကုိ၀င္း၊ တပ္သား ေအာင္သူရႏွင့္ အဖြဲ႕မွ လယ္ထဲသုိ႔ သြားေရာက္ ဖမ္းဆီးရာ ကိုငယ္မွာ အဖမ္းမခံဘဲ ရဲအုပ္ မ်ဳိး၀င္းထြန္းအား ျပန္လည္ လုံးေထြးသတ္ပုတ္ ခုခံရာမွ ဒုတပ္ၾကပ္ စုိးလင္း ကိုင္ေဆာင္ေသာ ေသနတ္ အမ္ ၂၂ နံပါတ္ ၁၈၀၅၈၅၄ မွ က်ည္ေပါက္ထြက္မႈ ႏွစ္ခ်က္ျဖစ္ကာ ကုိငယ္၏ ယာေျခသလုံး အား ထိမွန္ဒဏ္ရာ ရရွိကာ ေျခသလုံးမွာ စုတ္ျပတ္ ပ်က္စီးသြားေၾကာင္း သတင္းရရွိသည္။

“ကြၽန္ေတာ္တုိ႔က စပါးေျခြၿပီးေတာ့ လယ္တဲထဲမွာ ခဏ၀င္နားေနတာ ေလးေယာက္ပါ။ ၁၁ နာရီ ထုိးေလာက္က်ေတာ့ ဆုိင္ကယ္ ေလးငါးစီးေလာက္နဲ႔ ရဲရွစ္ေယာက္ေလာက္က ေရာက္လာၿပီး အတင္း ၀င္ဖမ္းပါတယ္။ ကိုငယ္ကုိ လက္ထိပ္နဲ႔ ႏွစ္ဆင့္ခတ္ၿပီး ဖမ္းတယ္။ ၿပီးေတာ့ ေသနတ္နဲ႔ ပစ္တယ္။ေသနတ္နဲ႔ ေဆာင့္ထုိးတယ္။ လက္သီးနဲ႔ ထုိးတယ္။ ေသနတ္နဲ႔ ပစ္တာက ဆက္တုိက္ပဲ ေလးငါးခ်က္ေလာက္ ရွိမယ္။ ေသနတ္က အ ရွည္ပါ။ ေသနတ္နဲ႔ ပစ္တာက လက္ထိပ္ခတ္ၿပီးမွ ပစ္တာပါ” ဟု လက္ထိပ္ခတ္ ဖမ္းဆီးထားသည့္ လယ္သမားအား ေသနတ္ျဖင့္ ပစ္ခတ္မႈ ျဖစ္ပြားစဥ္ အတူရွိေနသည့္ လယ္သမား ကိုသန္႔ဇင္ဦးက ေျပာၾကားသည္။

လက္ထိပ္ခတ္လ်က္ျဖင့္ ေသနတ္ဒဏ္ရာ ရရွိခဲ့သူ လယ္သမားကိုငယ္အား ေတြ႕ရစဥ္
