Sitagu Missionary Group and MAI airline will cooperate in providing assistance to Myanmar migrant workers in Malaysia who want to return home, Dr. Myat Thu told The Daily Eleven.
Myanmar Airways International (MAI) is planning to fly free of charge for the migrant workers in Malaysia and Sitagu Group is also planning to assist with the money they got from the donors which will be enough to hire three chartered planes.
“Sitagu Monk has received a donation about US$128,000 at present. There will be more than 170 people on board for one flight. The cost is about US$40,000 per flight, excluding ticket fares so we have enough money for three flights,” said Dr. Myat Thu who is treasurer of Sitagu Missionary Group of Myanmar.
Representatives of Sitagu Missionary Group of Myanmar will go to Malaysia on September 9 and they will carry out first flight on September 13.
“We will give priority to the workers who are in trouble at Malaysia. Ill people, pregnant women, those who have children and women are the main concerned for us to bring back. The Monk wanted to arrange to bring back them since the crackdown on illegal migrant workers in Malaysia started at the end of last month,” the treasurer continued.
Sitagu Monk will welcome in person the workers who are in first flight at Yangon airport. Hundred of Myanmar migrate workers are coming back home because Malaysia started a special operation on September 1 to arrest illegal migrant workers. In Malaysia, most migrate workers come from Indonesia and Myanmar. About 70,000 Myanmar migrant workers are working in Malaysia, and many of them are staying illegally.

မေလးရွားတြင္ တရားမ၀င္ သြားေရာက္အလုပ္ လုပ္ကိုင္ေနၿပီး ဒုကၡေရာက္ေနသည့္ ျမန္မာမ်ားအား ေလယာဥ္လက္မွတ္ အခမဲ့ျဖင့္ MAI မွ ျပန္လည္ပို႔ေဆာင္ေပးရန္ စီစဥ္လ်က္ရွိၿပီး သီတဂူ အေထာက္အကူျပဳ အဖဲြ႕မွ လက္ရွိေကာက္ခံ ရရွိထားေသာ အလွဴေငြမ်ားျဖင့္ ေလယာဥ္သံုးစင္းစာ ပို႔ေဆာင္ေပးမည္ျဖစ္ေၾကာင္း သိရသည္။
