Turkish security forces finds sarin gas in homes of suspected Syria Al-Qaeda linked Al-Nusra Front

Turkish security forces found a 2kg cylinder with sarin gas after searching the homes of Syrian militants from the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Nusra Front who were previously detained, Turkish media reports. The gas was reportedly going to be used in a bomb.
The sarin gas was found in the homes of suspected Syrian Islamists detained in the southern provinces of Adana and Mersia following a search by Turkish police on Wednesday, reports say. The gas was allegedly going to be used to carry out an attack in the southern Turkish city of Adana.
On Monday, Turkish special anti-terror forces arrested 12 suspected members of the Al-Nusra Front, the Al-Qaeda affiliated group which has been dubbed “the most aggressive and successful arm” of the Syrian rebels. The group was designated a terrorist organization by the United States in December.
Police also reportedly found a cache of weapons, documents and digital data which will be reviewed by police.
Following the searches, five of those detained were released following medical examinations at the Forensic Medicine Institution Adana. Seven suspects remain in custody. Turkish authorities are yet to comment on the arrests.
Russia reacted strongly to the incident, calling for a thorough investigation into the detention of Syrian militants
in possession of sarin gas.
“We are extremely concerned with media reports. Russia believes that the use of any chemical weapons is absolutely
inadmissible,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Thursday.
In a separate incident in Adana, police reportedly received intelligence that an explosive-laden vehicle had entered the town of Adana on Thursday, the Taraf daily reports.
Ankara has attempted to bolster the Syrian opposition without becoming embroiled in the Syrian civil war, a policy which Damascus claims lead to the deadliest act of terrorism on Turkish soil.
On May 11, 51 people were killed and 140 injured after two car bombs exploded in the Turkish town of Reyhanlı, located near the country’s border with Syria.A dozen Turkish nationals have been charged in the twin bombings, and Ankara has accused Damascus of helping the suspects carry out the attack.
“This incident was carried out by an organization which is in close contact to pro-regime groups in Syria and I say this very clearly, with the Syrian Mukhabarat [intelligence agency],” Interior Minister Muammer Guler said.
Syria’s Information Minister Omran Zoubi denied any link the attack, saying his country “did not commit and would never commit such an act because our values would not allow that”.Zoubi further charged the Turkish government had facilitated the flow of arms, explosives, funds and fighters across the country’s border into Syria, claiming that that Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his party bear direct responsibility [for the attack].”

Vijay Nambiar, the United Nations (UN) special adviser to the Secretary-General on Burma, arrived in Laiza today. The landmark visit was the first time that Nambiar visited the capital of Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) located in Burma’s most northern Kachin state.
Nambiar arrived at Laiza at about 11:30 am and was back in the Kachin state capital of Myitkyina by about 4 pm. During the four hour visit, the UN envoy met with KIO leaders and the IDP and Refugee Relief Committee (IRRC), Labang Doi Pyi Sa, head of the IRRC, told the Kachin News Group.
Nambiar’s visit was very important for the KIO, Doi Pyi Sa said.
The Laiza visit has come after the formation of the KIO Technical Advisory Team. An office was opened in the government-controlled Kachin state capital of Myitkyina on July 23. The team was formed after the KIO inked a seven-point agreement with the government during peace talks at the end of May. Although the signing of the agreement, which was mediated by both the UN and China in Myitkyina on May 30, fell short of ceasefire it promised to help reduce military conflicts by implementing a monitoring mechanism.
The conflict has been significantly reduced in both Kachin state and northern Shan state after the agreement came into force. But fighting between militia loyal to both sides has increased in in Chipwi Township in northeastern Kachin state since mid-August.

Myanmar’s opposition National League for Democracy (NLD) has denied providing cash to rebuild destroyed mosques amid a flurry of online rumours.
The story was first posted on Facebook and claimed that money donated for opposition leader, Aung San Suu Kyi’s birthday would be donated to reconstruct the mosques destroyed in the country’s communal violence.
“That news is just a rumour. It’s not at all true,” said Nyan Win, an NLD Central Executive Committee member told Eleven Media.
He added that the money donated was going to the party’s Health Network and Education Network as well as the Daw Khin Kyi Foundation.
The Facebook account of Thway Thitsa, long known to spread reactionary propaganda, initially posted the rumour, which soon went viral on other social media and Facebook accounts.
The malignant spread of misinformation via social media, especially Facebook, has been on the rise in Myanmar. Many accounts have been linked to spreading reactionary propaganda and personal attacks against the reform-minded government, opposition leaders and journalists.
Similar fear-mongering and spread of misinformation was also used in the past.
When elections took place in 1990, rumours spread that the NLD was infiltrated by communists. Now behind-the-scene propagandists have now turned to fabricating news that Muslims are influencing the party.
“There are those who are jealous of the NLD. They will write slanderous news. The people have brains and can decide. The public trust in Aung San Suu Kyi will not decline because of such attacks,” said Aye Thein from NLD’s Education Network.
Buddhist monk U Wirathu, who has a large following and is widely regarded as the leader of ‘969’ movement, has branded the NLD as the ‘Mutdaung party’ or the party filled with Muslims.
Others have been quick to attack the party for not supporting the Buddhist cause.
This is not the first time in Myanmar for propagandists to resort to rumour spreading and misinformation. Only now the tools are the internet, social media and Facebook and the rumours are bent on stirring religious hatred.
The NLD, however, has remained steadfast, choosing to believe in their supporters’ convictions and ability to sift the truth out amongst all the rumour and hate-speech.
“I only assume that those attackers have a low standard of opinions and conviction,” said executive party member Han Tha Myint.
