Chairman of National Natural Disaster Preparedness Central Committee Vice-President U Nyan Tun accompanied by the members of management work committee made an inspect ion tour of Rakhine State today to perform natural disaster preparedness and safety procedures based on An and to inspect evacuation of local people.
On his arrival at Sittway airport this afternoon, the Vice-President heard reports on disaster risk reduction measures presented by Rakhine State Chief Minister U Hla Maung Tin and state ministers.
Next, the Vice- President inspected works being carried out for relocation of local people from some wards in Sittway and victims of a relief camp near Dhapein village by Tatmadaw vehicle at safety places and cordially greeted them.
Then, the Vice- President attended a storm preparation meeting held at Rakhine State government office. The chief minister reported on formation of committees to be able to take effective measures against natural disaster, evacuation of local people and preparedness and safety procedures.
In his address, the Vice- President stressed the need to systematically carry out the disaster risk reduction and risk response steps in the face of natural disaster.
He focused to evacuate local people from the regions with high risk of natural disaster to safety places as soon as possible. He said that natural disaster is unpreventable, but united efforts and cooperation of all could overcome the challenge of natural disaster.
Then he left instructions on preparedness measures being carried out by the Union government and state government.
