Aung San Suu Kyi, opposition leader of Myanmar, has been chosen as the winner of the Hawai‘i Rotary Global Peace Award announced Thursday, Nov. 15. The Nobel laureate is being recognized for her activism in democracy and human rights in Myanmar while still maintaining her stance on nonviolence.
Suu Kyi will travel to Honolulu in January to accept the award from Rotary International President Sakuji Tanaka and also give the keynote address at the Rotary Global Peace Forum meeting.
