A meeting between the Burmese government officials and the civilians was held at the City Hall in Myitkyina on December 12th 2011. About 600 civilians, including the domestic journalists were present at the meeting.
The Secretary of the Kachin State offered 70 million kyat (about $ 70 thousand dollars) assistance for the refugees to Hpauyam Bawk Ja, the director of State Education, Religion and Human Services,
The Minister of the Kachin State, Lajawn Ngan Seng addressed at the meeting, and he indicated that President Thein Sein has ordered the Burmese military a halt to the current offensive attack on the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and their headquarters, Laiza. The written order to the military generals includes the current offensive campaign to be transformed into a defensive posture.
However, KLN correspondents in the war zone report that arm clashes are still breaking out across the Kachin State in spite of the order from the President. There was an intense battle broke out at the KIA’s 15th Battalion area between KIA and the Burmese soldiers on December 12th 2011. In addition, a local source informed KLN that there were (14) military convoys passing through the city of Namhkam around 9:00 a.m. to reinforce the attack against the KIA’s 3rd Brigade.
Kachin Land 13.12.2011:Three Tatmadaw helicopters flew to Tatmdaw Mu Bum outpost near Mai Ja Yang to drop the rations. The helicopters dropped bombs on the way back, but no casualty was reported today.around 3pm local time today
The talk about the halt of the war is yet to be actualized by the action of the Burmese military.
