On 27th May, 2011, 21st anniversary of 1990 elections was held with two programs; greeting political prisoners recently released and reciting papers regarding elections.

About 250 people including NLD Vice Chairman U Tin Oo, General Secretary Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and other Central Executive Committee members, NLD members from States and Divisions, 36 former political prisoners recently released from jail attended the ceremony. Vice Chairman U Tin Oo made some introductory speech also on behalf of U Win Tin who has been hospitalized. Then Daw Aung San Suu Kyi greeted political prisoners.

For the second part of the ceremony, papers on elections were recited by U Sai Saw Aung, Joint Secretary of Shan Nationalities League for Democracy on ethnic people’s view on the reason to participate in 1990 elections, NLD CEC member U Win Myint on the reasons why NLD participated on 1990 elections and former Chairman of Union Democracy Party U Phyoe Min Thein on the reasons why he did not participate in the 2010 elections.
