6 Burmese Soldiers Desert to SSA

6 Burmese soldiers from IB 152 under the newly formed Central Eastern Command based in Kho Lam sub-township, Nam Zarn Township have deserted to SSA with 9 assorted guns in the area of Kho Lam.

On 14 April, 2011, Corporal Tin Ko Hal from IB 152 led his 5 private soldiers: Moe Sit, Maung Htwe, Kyaw Thu, Toe Thet Aung and Maung Chit Oo along with 4 MA1, 2 MA2, 2 MA3, 1 MA4 with M79, 992 M79 grenades and 34 magazines, deserted to SSA.

These 6 Burmese soldiers were welcome by SSA and they were awarded cash prize each K 100,000. SSA also provides the accommodation, foods and takes the security for them.

The deserters said that the reasons of their deserting are: because they have been forced to join the Army, during serving in the Army, they were oppressed by their commander in many ways, they have no intention of abusing local people as their commander’s order, they could not get foods enough as their ration and they could not accept the brutal actions of their commanders.

SSA is ready to help them if these deserters whether want to go to work in Thailand as migrant workers or to join with the All Burmese Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF) for fighting back the Burmese Army.

These deserters are from the different parts of Burma such as Su Township and Phu Towship, Bago Region, Yangon Township, Yangon Region, Thaung Thar Township, Magway Region and Lewe township, Mandalay Region.
