| Shweli (2) Hydropower Project and Bilin Hydropower Project were awarded to Asia World Company Limited for the construction. Ministry of Electric Power -1 signed MOA with Huaneng Lancang River Hydropower Co., Ltd from China and Asia World Company Ltd on Shweli (2) Hydropower Project through JV / BOT system and signed MOU with Asia World Company Ltd on Bilin Hydro Power Project through BOT system on 24 November.
The construction of Shweli (2) Hydropower Project was undertaken by Asia World Company Ltd and Huaneng Lancan River Hydropower Company Ltd through a MOU since 12 November 2009, it was learnt. In addition to the construction of hydropower projects, the Asia World Company Ltd has received the rights to manage and operate Yangon-Pathein Road, Pathein-Ngwesaung Road, and Yangon-Mandalay Road through BOT system. On 24 November 2010, the signing ceremonies for MOA of Shweli (2) Hydropower Project, MOU for Belin Hydropower Project and handing over and taking over machinery and equipment for Thaukyegat (2) Hydropower Project were held among the Department of Hydropower Planning, the Department of Hydropower Implementation and the Huaneng Lancang River Hydropower Company Ltd., Asia World Co., Ltd, Gold Energy Co., Ltd, according to the official release. The construction of many hydropower projects in the country for the future has been awarded to the private companies. The construction of Saidin Hydropower Project was awarded to Future Energy Co., Ltd and Upper Belu Chaung Hydropower Project to Min Anawrahta Group Co., Ltd since 2009 by the Department of Hydropower Planning and that a MOU was already signed, according to official realease. The Future Energy Co., Ltd and the Min Anawrahta Group Co., Ltd had undertaken the work through BOT system (build, operate and transfer system), it was learnt. Among the hydropower projects, some of the hydropower projects have been undertaken by the Ministry of Electric Power No. 1 namely Yewya, Phyu Chaung, Kyun Chaung and Shwe Kyin. Other hydropower projects namely Mai Kha – Mai Lekha Confluence Project, Hat Kyee, Tarsan and Belu Chaung are being under taken by private companies and some are under consortium undertaking system. |
