49 billion THB of Thaksin’s assets transferred

BANGKOK, 3 May 2010 (NNT) – A total of 49.016 billion THB of former Prime Minister, Thaksin Shinawatra’s assets have been transferred to the state, according to the Department of Comptroller General (CGD).

CGD Director-General, Pongpanu Svetarundra, said the confiscated assets of Mr Thaksin have been transferred from 32 accounts of six commercial banks. The total amount of seized money could be divided into 46.210 billion THB of principal and 2.805 billion THB of interest.

Nevertheless, Mr Pongpanu added that another 163 million THB principal has not been transferred to the state yet; therefore, the CGD will contact the Office of the Attorney General and the Legal Execution Department to sell three unit trusts under the names of his ex-wife, son and daughter accordingly.

On 26 February 2010, the Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions of the Supreme Court ruled to confiscate 46.3 billion THB out of the 76 billion THB of Mr Thaksin’s frozen assets on grounds of abusing his power when in office to benefit his business.
