MRP members break with party, flee to Thailand

A total of 7 members of the Monland Restoration Party (MRP), based in Tenasserim Division, have disaffected from the party and fled across the Thailand-Burma border to the Thai province of Surat Thani, were they have reportedly taken refuge in a rubber plantation.

2 members of the breakaway faction, who consented to be interviewed by IMNA from the group’s refuge, explained that the split occurred after the faction became frustrated with the mismanagement of the party by MRP leaders during an operation at the front lines of the group’s ongoing clashes with Burmese military battalions

“In our party, the people who have high positions, they didn’t know much about party [are very inexperienced], and they can’t managed the party very well. When they talk with MRP soldiers who have low positions, they order the soldiers around and abuse their power. That’s why some of our members resigned,” a former section commander explained to IMNA. Burma Democratic Concern (BDC): UNSC must implement “Shwe-Gone-Daing” Declaration

Burma Democratic Concern (BDC) calls for world leaders to call for junta to allow convening people’s parliament according to 1990 election result which is tantamount to implementing “Shwe-Gone-Daing” declaration.
Aung San Suu Kyi and her party the National League for Democracy (NLD), the unanimous victors of the 1990 election, clearly stated their position in “Shwe-Gone-Daing” declaration that need to place in order to have true national reconciliation, i.e. to

1. Release all the political prisoners
2. Review 2008 Constitution
3. Recognise 1990 election result
4. Take place political dialogue

Burma Democratic Concern (BDC): UNSC must implement “Shwe-Gone-Daing” Declaration

30 March 2010

Aung San Suu Kyi led National League for Democracy (NLD) decided unanimously on 29 March 2010, not to re-register the party to participate in the junta’s planned sham 2010 election due to its unfair electoral laws.

National League for Democracy (NLD), unanimous victor of 1990 election, stands firmly on “Shew-Gone-Daing” declaration of which all four main principals are equally important that needs to place in order to have true national reconciliation in Burma, i.e.

• To release all political prisoners
• To take place genuine dialogue
• To revise 2008 constitution
• To recognize 1990 election results

By seeing this decision, legitimate leaders of Burma send the very clear message to the world that they honour the plight of the people who lost their lives in 1988 uprising, 1996 student demonstrations, 1998 student demonstrations, 2003 Depeyin massacre, 2007 Saffron revolution, the victims of 2008 Cyclone Nargis, the plight of ethnics people, the plight of the political prisoners and the plight of all people of Burma who have been suffering at the hands of brutal military regime. It also sends the very strong message that they respect the will of people, who voted for them in 1990 election.

This is the time that UN should proven itself that it really can make difference.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi once said that; Continue reading “Burma Democratic Concern (BDC): UNSC must implement “Shwe-Gone-Daing” Declaration”

Japanese Government to help in fight against malaria, tuberculosis in HIV/AIDS in the greater Mekong region

Nine Myanmar graduates of medical training from the Mae Sai hospital received their certificates of completion on March 27 at a ceremony presided over by M.R.Disnadda Diskul, Secretary-General of Mah Fah Luang Foundation at the Princess Mother Commemorative Hall in Doi Tung Area, Mae Fah Luang district, Chiang Rai province. Mr. Masaki Tada, President of the Japan International Friendship and Welfare Foundation (JIFF) and Dr. Sura Khunkongkhapan, Director of Mae Sai Hospital were present at the ceremony.

This medical training at Mae Sai Hospital was the last of 12 sessions which started 2006 under the Project “Fight against Malaria, Tuberculosis, and HIV/AIDS in the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS), Phases I, II, and III.” The three-phase project was implemented by JIFF in cooperation with the Mah Fah Luang Foundation and Mae Sai Hospital. The Government of Japan provided funds amounting to more than 20,000,000 Baht for the three-year project under the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects program.

Infectious disease control and prevention cannot be adequately dealt with by the individual efforts of a single country. It requires cooperation with neighboring countries and transnational efforts at the regional level. To address this issue, medical staff of JIFF and Mae Sai Hospital together provided the medical training for medical personnel from countries in the GMS, aiming at medical capacity development in the region. The number of personnel who participated in the training amounted to more than 100, among whom were nurses, medical technologists, X-ray technicians, and doctors from Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand.

In addition, the Government of Japan provided funds amounting to 1,744,650 Yen, or approximately 560,000 Baht in fiscal year 2009 for another JIFF project to transport used medical equipment from Japan to Thailand. The medical equipment will be utilized at hospitals, health centers, and schools in Northern Thailand.

It is expected that the medical personnel who participated in the training will contribute to an improvement of the medical services in their respective countries and promote further transnational efforts to fight infectious diseases in the GMS.

Even if the NLD is abolished, she does not consider it as the end of the NLD.
