300 migrants arrested in raid in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia)

an 9, 2009 (DVB)–Around 300 Burmese migrant workers were arrested in a raid by Malaysian police and immigration authorities on Wednesday, according to Burmese activists giving assistance to migrant workers in the country.

The raid took place on Wednesday morning at Pasar Budaya market, also known as Central market, a well known attraction in Kuala Lumpur.
Maung Maung Oo of the National League for Democracy (Liberated Area) in Malaysia said those who were working legally in the country or registered refugees were later released.

Relatives blocked from attending NLD member’s funeral

an 9, 2009 (DVB)–Two sons and a daughter in law of the late National League for Democracy member Hlaing Aye, who are currently being detained in Insein prison, were refused permission to attend his funeral on Thursday.

Withholding of case files hampers ICRC applications

Jan 8, 2009 (DVB)–Families of political inmates are having difficulties getting copies of their relatives’ case files, which they need to gain assistance from the International Committee of the Red Cross, from courts in Rangoon.
