Chinese police tried to hide a murder committed by Burmese Army
Local sources reported that Chinese government’s police tried to cover up the body of Lahpai Zau Lawn (age 55), a citizen of People’s Republic of China, who was killed by Burmese Army soldiers at Loi Leng, near Loije located in Chinese side of the Sino-Burma border on January 12, 2012. Lahpai Zau Lawn was shot at least 6 times by Burmese Army soldiers on his way back from family farm. Local residents said they saw marks on Zau Lawn’s face as severely beaten.
After killing Zau Lawn, Burmese Army soldiers hid the body and planted two land mines nearby. Upon hearing the news of Zau Lawn, neighbors and relatives went out to find him but prevented by Chinese police from taking picture of Zau Lawn’s body when they found his lifeless body. Some residents had taken pictures but cellphone memories were being deleted by Chinese police. But local youths said they were able to keep some photos taken before Chinese police arrived in the scene.
Local sources said Chinese police cremated Zau Lawn’s body in order to hide evidence of the murder on January 14, 2012. So far, 3 local Kachin residents have been murdered by Burmese Army soldiers stationed at Mu Hill. Local residents are shocked as Chinese government is silent in the cases of its citizens being killed.
On Oct 28, 2011, Burmese Army soldiers stationed at Muq hill had arrested three local villagers and brought them to their post. Mr. Maru Dau Lum (age 31), Mr. Ze Dau (age 70), and Mrs. Sumlut Roi Ji (age 28) were taken by Burmese soldiers while they were working on their maize fields. Mr. Dau Lum and Mr. Ze Dau later escaped but Mrs. Sumlut Roi Ji, a Chinese citizen, who was 8 months pregnant remained in the hands of Burmese soldiers and her whereabouts is still unknown.
Renewed civil war in Kachin State has begun in June 9, 2011 after Burmese Government Army attacked KIA near Tar Pain electric power plant. The Kachin civilian population was often targeted by the vaunted Burmese Army in retaliation for their impotent campaign to wipe out the KIA. Despite the “flickers of progress” mentioned in the international media and recent prisoners releases, reality-check on the ground indicates the continuing presence of horrendous rights violations perpetrated by the Burmese Army on the civilian population especially against the Kachins.
