Burma Democratic Concern (BDC): We support Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, peace and national reconciliation in Burma
Burma Democratic Concern (BDC) will be holding the protest on 2nd October 2011 (Fri) in London, UK to show our support for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, peace and national reconciliation in Burma.
In the evening on 2nd December 2011 from 18:00-21:00, Burma Democratic Concern (BDC) will be holding the Burma briefing regarding current situation of Burma, evaluation on past events and future plans. 2011 is the really dramatic year in Burma history. We have been witnessing historic events in recent months. There are some developments in Burma which we could say they are the indicators which we could translate them as we are on the road to national reconciliation. They are:
• 7 Nov 2010: First polls in 20 years
• 13 Nov: Daw Aung San Suu Kyi freed from house arrest
• 30 Mar 2011: Transfer of power to new so-called civilian government
• 19 June: Celebrated 66th Birthday of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi attended by thousands of people
• 4 July: Daw Aung San Suu Kyi visits Bagan as the very first trip
• 19 July: Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and thousands of people attended Martyrs day at the mausoleum
• 25 July: Daw Aung San Suu Kyi meets government’s liaison minister U Aung Kyi for the first time
• 8 Aug: Daw Aung San Suu Kyi attends the 8888 anniversary which attracted thousands of people
• 14 Aug: Daw Aung San Suu Kyi allowed to leave Rangoon on political visit
• 19 Aug: Daw Aung San Suu Kyi meets Burmese President U Thein Sein
• 30 Sept: President U Thein Sein suspended building Chinese backed Myint-Sone dams
• 6 Oct: Human rights commission established
• 12 Oct: More than 200 political prisoners freed
• 13 Oct: New labour laws allowing unions passed
• 18 Oct: Min Ko Naing Birthday attended by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and thousands of people
• 30 Oct: Daw Aung San Suu Kyi meets U Aung Kyi for fourth times
• 31 Oct: Daw Aung San Suu Kyi opens BAYDA Institute’s library which drew thousands of supporters
• 17 Nov: Burma granted ASEAN chair in 2014
• 18 Nov: National League for Democracy (NLD) unanimously decide to register and take part in the coming by-elections
• 21 Nov: Daw Aung San Suu Kyi attends the fund-raising festival for Educational Network
• 22 Nov: Announced that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi will contest in the by-election
Burma democracy leaders led by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi are working very tirelessly in order to restore peace, unity and national reconciliation in Burma. We believe that we have been seeing the real change in Burma. We trust Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and we will follow her leadership without wavering.
We believe that if we truly wanted to seek genuine change in Burma then we must also be ready to compromise as well. We wanted to have peace, unity and national reconciliation in Burma. Therefore, Burma Democratic Concern (BDC) calls for the President U Thein Sein regime to fully cooperate with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi for the betterment of the people and the nation.
Burma Democratic Concern (BDC) earnestly calls for the President U Thein Sein regime to —
(1) to release all political prisoners
(2) to stop armed conflicts
(3) to restore peace
(4) to respect rule of law
(5) to allow free independent judiciary system
