The Burma Army’s Northeastern Region Command, based in Lashio, had recently informed the Kachin Independence Army’s Shan State North-based 4th Brigade it would be sending troops into the latter’s operating areas looking for the Shan State Army (SSA) North units that were reported to have been taking refuge there. The 4th Brigade commander Zau Raw said it was merely a flimsy excuse to enter the KIA territory, warning the Burma Army it would be responsible for any ill consequences, according to Kachin News Group. (SHAN)
