A Deputy Commander of the Burmese Army’s LIB 537 died of unknown causes on the western Burma border. He was supervising the construction of the fence project by troops from his battalion, said a government official in Taung Bro sub-township.

“Major Kyaw Thu Ra from LIB 537 based in Rathidaung died on June 20 from an unidentified disease, while the fence project was being implemented on the western Burma border,” he said.

The Major was found dead on his bed in a temporary camp located in Taung Bro (way) sub-township in Maungdaw Township at night.

A day later senior officials took away his body and recalled the troops from the battalion working on the fence project to its base in Rathidaung.

“I heard the body of Major Kyaw Thu Ra was buried in Buthidaung after autopsy in Buthidaung hospital and the troops were brought to the battalion base in Rathidaung for interrogation,” he said.

The higher authorities have been interrogating the soldiers regarding the death of Major Kyaw Htu Ra because it suspects the death of the Major is abnormal.

Border sources said, the Commander of the LIB 537 Colonel Moe Hein arrived in Taung bro (way) village on the border to look for clues and evidence related to Major Kyaw Thu Ra’s death.
