ONE MORE SCANDAL AT INSTITUTE OF MEDICINE (1)
When the Medical Students passed the examination of Final Part (2), they are to proceed to concerning Hospital for internship program and serve as House Surgeons. Term for House Surgeon take about approximately one year as their time was divided equally for study the Medicine, Surgery, O.G (Obstetrics and Gynecology) and Pediatrics. Each subject takes about 3 months and altogether one year to be completed. Every end of three months program, House Surgeon must obtain a signature from Professor (Department Head) for completion and satisfactory of performance. Without completion of above program, no one in the history of Burma Medical Institute can hold of the M.B, B.S Degree and had a right to attend the Convocation for Graduation Ceremony.
But the exception for Grandnephew of Dictator Than Shwe, whose father is also a Deputy Minister in Ministry of Health can by-passed the above program and obtain the Medical Degree and attend the Graduation Ceremony.
His name is Thet Soe Paing and his father is Deputy Minister Dr. Paing Soe. He is not alone taking that special privilege but together with his 7 close friends. All of them were not attending for the subjects of O.G and Medicine in House Surgeon Program. Concerning Department Heads refused to sign their documents and official notice was issued to them as they are not entitled for the Graduation Ceremony.
Dr. Paing Soe was in fit of fury and threatening the two Professors who refused to sign the paper for his son and the gangs. O.G Professor Dr. Cherry Than Than Tin is only one month more to serve before retirement and finally give in for the case and sign the paper. Medicine Professor Dr. U Nyunt Thein is boldly defiance for the threat and refuse to sign.
Finally, the order from higher level was issued and instructed all concerning parties to allow the Thet Soe Paing and Gangs of Seven case to be closed and they are to attend the Graduation Ceremony.
For that above case, Rector of I.M (1), Professor Dr. Aye Maung Han was so upset and submitted the resignation letter to higher authority. He did it once when dictator Than Shwe grandson’s fiancée and friends were allowed by higher authority to participate the exam without completion of compulsorily requires attendance, which was by-passing his authority. Both requests were ignored although he is already 62 years old and two years overdue for retirement served under extension term.
How we Burmese people to survive with such kind of wayward students became Medical Doctor? How long the reputation of Burmese Medical standard to be maintained if unprofessional higher level interruptions continue.
